Lady Bulldogs handle Lee County
Terry Sanford (13-7, 7-2) beat Lee County (6-14, 2-7), 54-31, in girls basketball, Friday night at Lee County.
The Bulldogs won their sixth straight game, a stretch that started with a 56-25 home win over the Yellow Jackets on Jan. 10.
Terry Sanford’s Ona Udoh scored 10 of her game-high 20 points in the first quarter as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 23-14 lead. Lee County couldn’t match up with the 6-foot-1 Udoh, who scored several layups on lob passes thrown over the Yellow Jackets’ defense.
The Bulldogs’ defense took over after that, holding the Yellow Jackets to five, six, and six points in each of the next three quarters.
Lee County shot just 6-for-41 after the first quarter, 0-for-11 on 3-pointers. Terry Sanford led 36-19 at the half and built the lead to as large as 28 points before calling off the dogs in the fourth quarter.
Courtney Roulhac scored 10 points for Terry Sanford, and Kirstie King added seven.
For Lee County, Shantel Bennett was the leading scorer with nine points on four field goals. Tashari Wells-Tucker added six points, and Whitney Love had five.
Terry Sanford improved to 3-4 on the road and moved into second place in the conference. The Bulldogs travel to Southern Lee on Tuesday.
Lee County dropped its second straight game and sixth in the last seven. Next up for the Yellow Jackets is a trip to Union Pines on Monday at 6 p.m.
