Carrboro gives Yellow Jackets their first loss

Boys basketball

Carrboro 54, Lee County 52

Carrboro (5-2) edged the visiting Yellow Jackets (7-1, 2-0) for Lee County's first loss of the season on Tuesday night.

James Scott scored 21 points and was the only Carrboro player in double-figure scoring. The Jaguars led 27-20 at halftime.

Jacket center Dewaun McEachin scored 19 points and Hunter Jackson added 11 points.

Lee County returns to Cape Fear Valley play hosting Union Pines at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Union Pines 67, Jordan-Matthews 49

Armani McCoy and Malik Crawford made four three-pointers apiece leading the Vikings (4-4, 0-2) to a victory at home Tuesday night.

McCoy scored 17 points while Crawford had 16 and Darrin Carlyle added 15 points. The Vikings made nine three-pointers on the night.

Jaleel Dunn led the Jets with 14 points and Josh Hudson added 13 points.

Jordan-Matthews (3-3) played West Montgomery last night and will be in the Courier Tribune Christmas Tournament starting Dec. 27.

The Vikings play at Lee County at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Cary Academy 72, Lee Christian 35

Cary Academy (5-4) took a non-conference win at Lee Christian Tuesday evening. The Falcons (0-6, 0-3) host Faith Home School at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Eastern Randolph 81, Chatham Central 62

Eastern Randolph (5-1) topped the visiting Bears (1-4, 1-0) in a non-conference game Tuesday night.

Senior forward Zack Burke led the Bears with 31 points, seven boards and six steals.

Chatham Central will play at East Montgomery at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Chapel Hill 57, Northwood 52

Chapel Hill broke a 49-49 tie in the final two minutes to win a Big Eight Conference game at Northwood (2-4, 0-1) Tuesday night.

Chapel Hill led 21-10 after a quarter. The Chargers worked back to take the lead in the third quarter and be tied going down the stretch.

Kadarus Rone led the Chargers with 11 points and Elijah Washington had 10 points.

Northwood will play a Big Eight game at Cardinal Gibbons at 7 p.m. Friday.

North Moore 63, East Montgomery 46

The Mustangs and Eagles (1-5, 1-3) were tied, 26-26, at halftime before the host Mustangs (5-3, 3-0) ran away to stay unbeaten in the Yadkin Valley Conference on Tuesday.

North Moore will play in the Holiday in the Pines tournament at Pinecrest beginning Dec. 27.

Southeast Raleigh 65, Harnett Central 45

Southeast Raleigh (6-1, 2-0) won a Greater Neuse River game at Harnett Central (4-6, 0-2) Tuesday night.

Grant Mace led Harnett Central with 15 points and Anthony Staton scored 14 points.

The Trojans host Knightdale in a conference contest at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Hoggard 54, Pinecrest 42

The visiting Vikings (4-4) led 26-17 at halftime and continued on for a win at Pinecrest (1-6) Tuesday night. The Patriots will play at R.J. Reynolds at 7 p.m. Friday.

Girls basketball

Lee County 60, Carrboro 47

The Lady Jackets (4-4, 1-1) pulled away in the fourth quarter for a win at Carrboro (1-7) Tuesday night. Lee County led 34-33 going to the fourth quarter.

Sophomore guard Shantel Bennett led the Lady Jackets with 21 points, 13 steals and four assists. Noelle Beattie had 10 points and seven rebounds. Quitta Wilson had nine points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Lee County hosts Union Pines at 6 p.m. this evening.

Union Pines 67, Jordan-Matthews 31

The Lady Vikings (7-1, 2-0) jumped out to a 22-10 lead by the end of the first quarter and kept pulling away from the Lady Jets (1-6) Tuesday at Union Pines.

Stephanie Johnson had 16 points and three blocked shots for the Lady Vikings while Tiffany Hicks had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and Lexie Coxe added 10 points.

Odyssey Dunn led Jordan-Matthews with nine points.

Union Pines plays at Lee County at 6 p.m. this evening. Jordan-Matthews will be in the Courier Tribune Christmas Tournament on Friday, Saturday and Monday.

Cary Academy 60, Lee Christian 26

Cary Academy (6-3) rolled to a non-conference win at Lee Christian Tuesday night.

Rebekah Banks led Cary with 24 points. Lauren Lane led the Lady Falcons with nine points and Peyton Sprouse scored six points.

The Lady Falcons (0-5, 0-2) play again after the new year, at Crossroads Christian on Jan. 3.

Eastern Randolph 50, Chatham Central 39

The Lady Bears led 29-25 going to the fourth quarter before the home side rallied to win in a non-league game Tuesday night.

Ty-Kella Goins led Eastern Randolph (2-4) with 15 points and M'Leigha Brown added 13 points.

Ashley Hudson led the Lady Bears with 14 points. Katelyn Moody added nine points.

Chatham Central (2-3, 1-0) will travel to East Montgomery for a Yadkin Valley game at 6 p.m. Friday.

North Moore 48, East Montgomery 38

The Lady Mustangs (3-5, 2-2) prevailed at home for a YVC win over East Montgomery (0-7, 0-2) Tuesday night. North Moore will take on Middle Creek in the first round of the Holiday in the Pines tournament at Pinecrest at 6 p.m. Friday.

Southeast Raleigh 78, Harnett Central 16

Southeast Raleigh (8-0, 2-0) led 27-1 after one quarter and went on to an easy conference win over the Lady Trojans (3-6, 0-2) Tuesday night.

Ashlyn Jackson led Southeast Raleigh with 19 points. Madison Turlington scored eight points for the Lady Trojans.

Harnett Central hosts Knightdale at 6 p.m. this evening.

Hoggard 47, Pinecrest 27

Hoggard (5-3) jumped out to a 21-4 lead in the first quarter and beat the Lady Patriots (1-6) in Wilmington Tuesday night.

Pinecrest will play Mount Zion Christian in the first round of its Holiday in the Pines tournament at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The tourney concludes Saturday.
