Area scores: Cavs roll into showdown for first

Southern Lee 8, Westover 1

The Cavaliers (7-0-1, 3-0-0) routed the visiting Wolverines (5-3, 2-2) in a Cape Fear Valley match Monday night.

The Cavaliers will be hosting Chill on the Hill night tonight with the JV-varsity soccer doubleheader against Terry Sanford. The varsity game is slated for 7 p.m. The first 100 students will receive free admission and Southern Lee sunglasses. On the pitch, the Cavaliers and Bulldogs (8-1, 4-0) will play to determine first place in the CFVC.

Terry Sanford 5, Lee County 2

Terry Sanford (8-1, 4-0) prevailed at home over the Yellow Jackets (3-4-1, 1-2-1) Monday night. The defeat ended the Jackets' 3-0-1 stretch over the last two weeks.

Lee County plays at Westover at 7 p.m. tonight.

Union Pines 7, Douglas Byrd 1

The Vikings (3-4-3, 1-3-1) cruised to their first conference win of the season Monday at Douglas Byrd. The Vikings host Gray's Creek in a CFVC match at 7 p.m. tonight.

Jordan-Matthews 9, Reidsville 0

Kevin Rodriguez and Edgar Aragon scored two goals each for the Jets in a win to start their Mid-State season at Reidsville Monday. The Jets led 8-0 at halftime.

Jordan-Matthews (6-3, 1-0) play at Graham at 6 p.m. tonight.

Northwood 3, J.F. Webb 0

The Chargers pulled away from a 1-0 halftime edge to get their first Big Eight soccer victory Monday night in Pittsboro. Northwood (4-3, 1-2) plays another conference contest at Cedar Ridge at 6:45 p.m. tonight.

Pinecrest 4, Scotland 0

The Patriots (7-0-1, 2-0-0) blanked the Fighting Scots in an SEC match Monday night. The Patriots have outscored foes 16-0 in their last three matches.

Pinecrest hosts Purnell Swett in an SEC game at 7 p.m. tonight.

Harnett Central 3, Knightdale 2

The Trojans (4-4-1, 1-2-0) got a Greater Neuse River win at home Monday night over Knightdale (1-8, 0-3). Harnett Central plays at Garner at 6:30 p.m. tonight.

Providence Grove 2, North Moore 1

Providence Grove edged the visiting Mustangs in a non-conference match Monday. North Moore (5-1-1, 3-0-0) hosts West Montgomery for a Yadkin Valley match at 6:30 p.m. tonight.

Pine Forest 8, Overhills 0

Pine Forest (8-1, 4-1) routed the visiting Jaguars (3-4-2, 2-1-1) in a Mid-South Athletic Conference match Monday night. The Jaguars host E.E. Smith in a MSAC match at 6 p.m. this evening.

Terry Sanford completed a sweep over Union Pines on Monday, taking command of first place in the Cape Fear Valley Conference. The Lady Vikings (8-2, 5-2) host Lee County at 4:30 p.m. today.

Southern Lee 9, Gray's Creek 0

The Lady Cavaliers swept a Cape Fear Valley match at Gray's Creek Monday afternoon. The Lady Cavs will host Jordan-Matthews at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

North Moore 5, South Davidson 4

The Lady Mustangs (6-4, 6-4) won four singles matches and one doubles match to get a Yadkin Valley Conference win Monday afternoon. Amber Hussey, Melanie Stewart, Keely Cleaveland and Morgan Jeffries won in singles. Jeffries and Alyssa Oldham won their doubles match.

North Moore will play at North Stanly at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Harnett Central 9, Southeast Raleigh 0

The Lady Trojans (6-3, 6-3) got their second sweep of Southeast Raleigh on the road Monday afternoon. Harnett Central plays at Knightdale at 3:30 p.m. today.

Cleveland 6, Western Harnett 3

Cleveland (7-2, 4-1) won five of the six singles matches to win a Two Rivers Conference match at Western Harnett on Monday. The Lady Eagles host Corinth Holders at 4 p.m. today.


Union Pines d. Western Harnett 25-20, 25-18, 24-26, 25-22

The Lady Vikings (10-3, 5-1 CFVC) ran their winning streak to five matches topping Western Harnett (3-6, 1-1 Two Rivers) Monday evening in Cameron.

Chandler Adams had 20 service points and seven aces for the Lady Vikings. Union Pines totaled 17 aces.

Rachel Breasseale had 10 digs and Stephanie Johnson had five blocks for the Lady Vikings.

Western Harnett played at Corinth Holders last night and will visit Triton Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. start. Union Pines will host Westover at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Chatham Central d. Jordan-Matthews 25-16, 25-14, 19-25, 25-5

In Bear Creek Monday evening, the Lady Bears earned a season split with Jordan-Matthews and won for the third time in their last four matches. Chatham Central won the JV match 25-7, 25-9.

The Lady Bears (3-7, 2-5 YVC) played North Moore last night and will play at Providence Grove on Monday. The Lady Jets (1-10, 0-1 Mid-State) played Carrboro last night and will play at Bartlett Yancey at 6 p.m. Thursday.
