Yellow Jackets break through at Apex
Lee County got its first win and first Tri-Nine Conference win of the baseball season, winning 7-4 at Apex Wednesday night.
The Yellow Jackets (1-3, 1-1) broke up a 2-2 tie with the Cougars (2-2, 1-1) with a run in the fifth and a four-run rally in the top of the sixth for a 7-2 lead. Nolan Groce hit a two-RBI single and Hampton Thomas had a two-RBI double in the Jacket sixth.
Alex Scott pitched six innings and allowed one earned run to get the victory. Scott also went 2-for-3 with a double at the plate.
Chase Arrington and Dalton Spivey added an RBI apiece. Lee County outhit the Cougars 9-6 on the night.
The Yellow Jackets hit the road to face Panther Creek in a Tri-Nine game today at 4:30 p.m. Lee County's home opener, after two tries have been postponed, is set for Tuesday night against Green Hope.
Northwood 11, Voyager Academy 1
The Chargers bolted out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and cruised to a Carolina 12 win at home Wednesday night in a match-up between the Chargers (3-1, 1-0), who reached the 2A state semifinals last season, and Voyager (1-2, 0-1), the state runner-up in 1A last spring.
Northwood played at Carrboro last night and is set to host Roxboro Community tonight at 7 p.m.
Jordan-Matthews 16, North Moore 6
Casey Golden went 5-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, two doubles, a triple, six RBI and three runs as the Jets (4-1) handed North Moore (3-1, 3-0) its first loss Wednesday in Robbins.
North Moore led 3-0 before the Jets got back to a 4-4 tie through four innings. The Jets put the game away with eight runs in the seventh.
In addition to Golden's huge game, Derek Hamilton went 5-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and three runs. Chip Perry added a 2-for-4 game with three RBI.
Jordan-Matthews plays at Reidsville tonight at 7 p.m. North Moore played West Montgomery last night and goes to North Stanly tonight for a 7 p.m. start.
Harnett Central 19, Western Harnett 6
The Trojans (2-0) rolled to their second straight win over a county rival to start the season on Wednesday.
Harnett Central opens Greater Neuse River play hosting Southeast Raleigh tonight at 7 p.m. Western Harnett (1-4, 0-2) hosts Overhills for a conference game tonight at 7 p.m.
Union Pines 13, Overhills 0
The Vikings (5-1, 2-0) routed the host Jaguars (1-4, 1-1) in a Cape Fear Valley game Wednesday night. Union Pines hosts Gray's Creek tonight at 7 p.m. Overhills plays at Western Harnett tonight.
Western Harnett 12, Harnett Central 0
The Lady Eagles (3-1, 2-0) blanked Harnett Central Wednesday night for their third straight win. Western Harnett hosts Overhills tonight at 7 p.m. Harnett Central (1-1) played Triton last night and will host Southeast Raleigh tonight at 6:30 p.m.
North Moore 9, West Montgomery 1
The Lady Mustangs (4-0, 3-0) remained perfect with a Yadkin Valley win at West Montgomery Wednesday night. North Moore played South Stanly yesterday and is slated to visit East Montgomery on Tuesday.
Jordan-Matthews 15, Graham 5
The Lady Jets (1-0, 1-0) opened their season with a Mid-State victory at Graham on Wednesday. Jordan-Matthews plays at Reidsville tonight at 6 p.m.
Chatham Central 2, South Stanly 0 - 8 innings
Chatham Central (4-0, 4-0) scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to knock off conference rival South Stanly Wednesday night. South Stanly is No. 1 ranked in this week's N.C. Softball Coaches Association 1A state poll. The Lady Bears are No. 3 in the same poll.
Kelsey Hayes pitched the complete game for the Lady Bears, allowing six hits and no walks while getting six strikeouts. Cayley Oldham went 3-for-4 at the plate as Chatham Central totaled five hits.
Chatham Central hosts North Rowan this evening at 6 p.m.
Panther Creek 9, Lee County 0
The Lady Catamounts (4-0, 4-0) got an easy Tri-Nine victory over visiting Lee County (0-4, 0-3) Wednesday night. The Lady Jackets played Fuquay-Varina last night and will host Green Hope Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Union Pines 5, Overhills 1
Kooba Richard led the Lady Vikings with a hat trick in a Cape Fear Valley victory at Overhills Wednesday night.
Union Pines (3-0, 1-0) plays Havelock Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Overhills (1-3-1, 0-1-0) plays at Western Harnett tonight at 6 p.m.
Pinecrest 2, Lumberton 1
The Lady Patriots (4-0-1, 3-0-0) edged Lumberton (6-1, 0-1) in a Southeastern Conference match Wednesday night. Pinecrest plays at Millbrook this evening at 5:30 p.m.

Madison Pleasant scored a hat trick with Karina Aguila and Lily Nava getting a goal each as the Lady Jets (2-2, 1-0) won a Mid-State match Wednesday night.
Jordan-Matthews hosts Cummings Monday at 6 p.m.
Triton 8, North Lenoir 0
Triton (3-2, 2-1) scored four goals in each half led by Dahlia Guin netting four goals in an Eastern Carolina win over North Lenoir (1-3, 0-2). Jessica Portillo, Emily Neville, Carolina Rosado and Lexi Vazquez scored a goal each.
The Lady Hawks host Southern Lee tonight at 6 p.m.
Clayton 1, Harnett Central 0
Clayton (2-0-1, 1-0-1) gave the Lady Trojans (3-1, 1-1) their first loss in a Greater Neuse River match Wednesday night. Harnett Central will host East Wake Monday at 6 p.m.
South Stanly 5, Chatham Central 1
The Lady Rowdy Rebel Bulls won a Yadkin Valley match at Chatham Central Wednesday night. The Lady Bears (0-4, 0-4) played Albemarle last night and will go to North Rowan Monday at 6:30 p.m.

The Cavaliers (4-2, 4-1) prevailed in a Cape Fear Valley match at Westover on Wednesday. Southern Lee will host Gray's Creek Monday at 4 p.m.
