Cavalier win creates tie atop Cape Fear Valley

Southern Lee 3, Gray's Creek 2

Behind Derek Jackson's complete game on the mound, the Cavaliers (8-3, 5-1) gave Gray's Creek (9-3, 5-1) its first Cape Fear Valley loss on Thursday night in Hope Mills.

After the Bears scored twice in the bottom of the third, the Cavaliers scored two runs for a 3-2 lead in the fourth. Jackson allowed three hits and had eight strikeouts.

Southern Lee and Gray's Creek lead Union Pines (8-2, 4-1) by a half-game in the CFVC standings.

The Cavaliers will be a co-host, along with O'Neal, for the Chatlee Easter Invitational Tournament this coming Thursday-Saturday.

Grace Christian 13, Faith Christian 2

The Crusaders rolled to another big win, making it three in four days, at Ramseur Thursday afternoon. Grace Christian (5-2, 2-0) has piled up 53 runs in going 3-0 this week.

The Crusaders will be in the Chatlee Easter Invitational Tournament next week.

Chatham Central 15, Graham 1

The Bears (7-4, 6-1) scored eight runs in the first inning and kept going to a five-inning win over the hosts of the Graham Athletic Boosters Tournament on Thursday.

Victor Stinson went 2-for-3 with a home run and got the victory on the mound. Cole Garner knocked in four RBI. Zack Burke, Seth Elkins and Chase Fuquay had three hits each.

Chatham Central continues in the tournament at Graham today and will host Jordan-Matthews on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Eastern Randolph 3, Jordan-Matthews 2

Eastern Randolph (6-5, 5-2) edged the visiting Jets (6-4, 2-2) in a Mid-State game Thursday night. The Jets scored a run and still had the bases loaded in the seventh before Eastern Randolph closed it out.

Jordan-Matthews will play at Graham Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Triton 13, C.B. Aycock 0

Triton's Brett McLamb pitched a five-inning no-hitter as the Hawks (8-3, 3-3) turned around a 7-1 loss to C.B. Aycock (10-3, 5-2) from March 7.

McLamb had seven strikeouts and one walk. Taylor Emory went 3-for-3 with two RBI for the Hawks. Matthew Webb and Austin Lee each went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Triton is hosting the Richard Strickland Easter Tournament starting today.


Apex 16, Lee County 6

Apex (11-0, 9-0) kept its hold on first place in the Tri-Nine by beating the visiting Lady Jackets Thursday.

The Lady Cougars jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first three innings. Lee County rallied for five runs in the fifth, making the gap 13-6.

Lee County (3-8, 2-6) will host Fuquay-Varina on April 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Gray's Creek 24, Southern Lee 3

Gray's Creek (10-3, 4-2) put up 10 runs in the top of the first and kept going for a Cape Fear Valley win at Southern Lee (2-7, 1-5) Thursday night. The Lady Cavaliers will play at Chatham Central on Friday at 6 p.m.

Jordan-Matthews 6, Eastern Randolph 3

The Lady Jets (3-2, 3-1) got a Mid-State victory over Eastern Randolph (7-7, 6-2) in Siler City Thursday night. Jordan-Matthews will host Chatham Central on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Triton 2, C.B. Aycock 0

Kayla Baker's complete game led the Lady Hawk (9-2, 5-1) to a key Eastern Carolina win over C.B. Aycock (6-7, 5-2) Thursday. Baker allowed five hits and three walks.

Erica Ocenna led Triton's offense going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Triton will host Southern Wayne on April 9.

Girls soccer

Grace Christian 6, Faith Christian 3

Madison Bolen's hat trick led the Lady Crusaders (6-4-1, 3-1-0) to a non-conference win at home Thursday afternoon.

Bolen, an eighth-grader, is leading the state with 22 goals and 55 points on the season.

Grace Christian led 4-1 at halftime with two goals by Bolen and one apiece by Torie Boyte and Bridgette Angeles. Bolen and Boyte netted one goal each in the second half. Boyte, with two, Bolen and Payton Winchell had assists.

Boyte has a five-match goal-scoring streak going.

The Lady Crusaders will host Fayetteville Homeschool on April 9.

C.B. Aycock 5, Triton 2

The Lady Golden Falcons (6-2, 6-1) beat visiting Triton (4-6, 2-4) in an ECC match Thursday night. Triton will host Southern Wayne on April 9.
