No. 2 Lady Jackets advance in CFVC softball

Lee County's softball squad easily advanced through the first round of the Cape Fear Valley Conference Tournament Monday evening; scoring six runs in the first inning and rolling to a 10-1 win versus visiting Westover.

The No. 2-seeded Lady Yellow Jackets (12-3) got all the offense they'd need in the bottom of the first. Morgan Pedley started in the circle and pitched 6.0 innings giving up two hits and striking out 11.

Jacie Arrington went 4 for 4 with four singles and scored two runs. Tessa Wilson and Savannah Patterson scored two runs each as well. Chandler Patterson and Pedley drove in two RBI each.

Lee County vs. Union Pines and Gray's Creek vs. Douglas Byrd were the two semifinal games played at Southern Lee last night. The CFVC Tournament final is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Southern Lee.


Gray's Creek 6, Lee County 0

No. 4 Gray's Creek (12-9) defeated No. 5 Lee County (11-11) in the first round of the CFVC Tournament Monday night in Hope Mills. The Bears won two of three contests with the Yellow Jackets this season.

Gatlin Pate fired a complete game with no walks and 14 strikeouts for the Bears. The Bears outhit the Jackets 11-4.

Gray's Creek played No. 1 Terry Sanford and Southern Lee faced Union Pines in the CFVC semifinals last night at Southern Lee. The championship game is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Southern Lee.
