Area scores: Cavs use early lead to top Western Harnett

Southern Lee 9, Western Harnett 2
The Cavaliers (6-3, 3-1 Cape Fear Valley) posted four runs in the top of the first and went on to score in five of their seven frames at Western Harnett (2-5, 0-0 Two Rivers) Monday night.
Sophomore Maxx Taylor (2-0) started on the mound and allowed one unearned run and three hits in four innings to get the victory.
Ryan Holmes went 2 for 4 and scored four runs for the Cavs while Ethan Helsman and Cullen Boyette knocked in two RBI apiece.
The Cavaliers played Westover last night and will host Terry Sanford for a CFVC game at 7 p.m. Friday. The Eagles will open Two Rivers play at Corinth Holders at 7 p.m. Friday.


Cedar Ridge 9, Northwood 5
The Red Wolves (3-3, 1-1) earned a regular-season split with Northwood (3-4, 1-1) Monday evening in Pittsboro. Cedar Ridge led 8-0 through five innings.
Trevor Hackney went 2 for 3 with two doubles for the Chargers. Northwood hosted Chapel Hill last night and will play at Chapel Hill at 6:30 p.m. Friday.


East Montgomery 7, North Moore 6 - 8 innings
The Eagles (4-2, 4-1) scored two runs in the top of the eighth and held the Mustangs to one in the bottom for a Yadkin Valley victory Monday night in Robbins.
Nathan Reynolds went 3 for 4 with a homer and five RBI for the victors.
The Mustangs (4-1, 3-1) play at Jordan-Matthews at 7 p.m. tonight.


Harnett Central 11, Rolesville 0
The Trojans (5-1, 3-0) routed the visiting Rams in five innings in a Greater Neuse River game Monday night. Austin Mendenhall got the win for the Trojans.
Harnett Central played at Garner last night and will host Southeast Raleigh at 4 p.m. Monday.


Triton 9, South Johnston 3
The Hawks (5-1, 1-0) and Trojans (4-3, 0-1) went scoreless until the host Hawks scored four runs in the fourth and went on to a Two Rivers Conference win Monday.
Trent Fennell pitched 5.1 innings and got the win. Brett McLamb drove in four runs for the Hawks. Aaron Hedgepeth had two hits and two RBI.
Triton will play a league game at Cleveland at 7 p.m. Friday.


Western Harnett 19, Southern Lee 3
The Lady Eagles (2-5, 0-0 Two Rivers) halted a three-game skid beating visiting Southern Lee (0-8, 0-3 Cape Fear Valley) Monday night.
Western Harnett will begin its conference season at Corinth Holders at 7 p.m. Friday. The Lady Cavaliers played Westover last night and will host Jordan-Matthews at 6 p.m. Thursday.


Northwood 13, Cedar Ridge 3
Northwood (5-0, 2-0) slugged for 15 hits including two home runs to stay perfect on the season with a Big Eight Conference win at home Monday evening.
Mackenzie Allgood hit a solo home run in the first giving Northwood a 2-0 lead. After the Lady Red Wolves got a run back in the top of the third, Ally McKee hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Chargers went on to add five runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Anna Jasper got the win in the circle, getting nine strikeouts while giving up four hits and a walk.
Allgood went 4 for 4 with her homer, a double and three runs scored. Kayli Blankenship went 3 for 4 with two runs. McKee went 2 for 4 and had five RBI.
The Lady Chargers played Chapel Hill last night and go to Eastern Randolph for a non-conference game at 6:30 p.m. this evening.


Jordan-Matthews 5, Providence Grove 3
The Lady Jets (5-3, 1-0 Mid-State) won a non-conference contest at Providence Grove (2-4) Monday. Jordan-Matthews played at North Moore yesterday and will play at Southern Lee at 6 p.m. Thursday.


Rolesville 2, Harnett Central 1
Rolesville (1-5, 1-0) opened its Greater Neuse River season with a win at Harnett Central (4-2, 2-1) Monday.
Both sides scored their runs in the second inning. Kara Goff had two hits and an RBI for the Lady Trojans.
Harnett Central played at Garner last night and will host Southeast Raleigh at 4 p.m. Monday.


Triton 4, South Johnston 3 - 10 innings
The Lady Hawks (4-3, 1-0) scored a run in the home half of the sixth for a 3-3 tie, then eventually won it in the 10th in a Two Rivers game Monday in Erwin.
Senior Kayla Baker pitched a complete game for the Lady Hawks, giving up six hits and one earned run in 10 innings.
Senior Erica Occena went 4 for 5 at the plate with two runs and an RBI. Emma Thomas, Savannah Dunn and Kayce Graves had an RBI each.
Triton hosts Princeton at 6 p.m. this evening.


Cape Fear Christian 10, Freedom Christian 0
The Lady Eagles (4-0) blanked visiting Freedom Christian Monday afternoon. Cape Fear Christian will play at Oakwood School at 4 p.m. Friday.


Girls soccer
Lee County 9, Westover 2
Sophomore Marissa Kaufman scored a hat trick and added two assists for the Lady Yellow Jackets as they routed Westover in a Cape Fear Valley match Monday in Fayetteville.
Madison Hunter scored two goals for the Lady Jackets. Elyse Cooper, McKenna Claffey, Micaela Schlott and Andriyeli Jiminez scored a goal each. The Lady Jackets outshot Westover 36-4.
Lee County (2-3, 2-3) will host Southern Lee at 7 p.m. tonight.


Terry Sanford 7, Southern Lee 5
The Lady Bulldogs (3-2, 3-1) outscored the Lady Cavaliers (5-3, 3-2) for a CFVC win at Southern Lee Monday night. Southern Lee plays at Lee County at 7 p.m. tonight.


Union Pines 3, Gray's Creek 1
The Lady Vikings (5-1-1, 5-0-0) remained perfect in the Cape Fear Valley beating Gray's Creek (5-3, 2-2) Monday night in Cameron. Union Pines plays a non-league match at Jordan-Matthews at 6 p.m. this evening.


Triton 6, South Johnston 0
Sophomore Morgan Goff scored all six Lady Hawk goals as Triton (5-3-1, 1-1-0) defeated Two Rivers foe South Johnston in Erwin Monday.
Carolina Rosado, Jailene Ocasio, Demarshay Devane and Jessica Portillo had an assist each.
Triton will play at Overhills at 7 p.m. Thursday.


Chapel Hill 3, Northwood 1
Chapel Hill (6-0, 3-0) stopped Northwood's (4-2, 1-1) three-match winning streak in Big Eight play Monday night in Pittsboro.
Rachel Pedigo, from Jamie Palermo's assist, scored the Lady Charger goal.
Northwood plays a league match at Cardinal Gibbons at 6:45 p.m. this evening.


Jordan-Matthews 4, Chatham Central 0
Karina Aguila and Cristina Cetino netted two goals apiece for the Lady Jets (3-3-1, 1-0-0) as they took a season sweep versus county-rival Chatham Central (0-4, 0-1) Monday in Siler City.
The Lady Jets host Union Pines at 6 p.m. this evening while the Lady Bears go to East Montgomery for a Yadkin Valley game at 6 p.m. this evening.


East Montgomery 1, North Moore 0
East Montgomery (5-1, 2-1) edged the Lady Mustangs (0-2-1, 0-2-0) in a Yadkin Valley match Monday night. North Moore continues conference play at South Davidson at 6 p.m. this evening.


Pinecrest 7, Scotland 0
The Lady Patriots (5-1-1, 3-1-0) rebounded from their first conference loss on Friday with an easy win at Scotland Monday night. Pinecrest plays another SEC match at 6 p.m. this evening at Purnell Swett.


Harnett Central 9, Rolesville 0
The Lady Trojans (3-4, 2-2) rolled by Rolesville (0-8, 0-4) in a Greater Neuse River soccer game Monday in Angier. Harnett Central plays at East Wake at 6:30 p.m. this evening.


Western Harnett 8, Douglas Byrd 0
Western Harnett made it back-to-back victories rolling to an easy win at former conference mate Douglas Byrd Monday night. The Lady Eagles will play a Two Rivers match at Corinth Holders at 7 p.m. Friday.

Pine Forest (5-2, 3-2) got a goal in each half to defeat the visiting Lady Jaguars (2-5, 2-2) in a Mid-South Athletic match Monday. Overhills hosts E.E. Smith for a conference match at 6 p.m. this evening.

The Yellow Jackets edged Union Pines by a stroke for their third team victory in four Cape Fear Valley matches on the season Monday afternoon at Sanford Golf Course. Union Pines' Ben Chrystler was the medalist shooting a one-over-par 72. Lee County's Dalton Mauldin shot a 73.
The next CFVC match will be at Highland County Club in Fayetteville on Monday.
