Yellow Jackets card fourth CFVC golf win of season

Lee County 314, Union Pines 323, Southern Lee 324, Terry Sanford 336, Gray's Creek 379, Westover and Douglas Byrd no score
Lee County won its fourth Cape Fear Valley Conference golf match of the season, out of five events, Monday afternoon at Highland Country Club. The Yellow Jackets shot 314, 26 over par, as a team. Dalton Mauldin shot a two-over 74 and Walter Brinker shot a 75 to lead the Jackets.
Ben Chrystler of Union Pines shot a two-under 70 to win the medalist spot. Rohun Shaw of Terry Sanford shot a 76. Southern Lee's Zane Lewis and Union Pines' Dalton Wheeless shot 77s.
The next CFVC match is set for Monday at Cypress Lakes Golf Course in Hope Mills.

 

Baseball
Union Pines 10, North Moore 9
The Vikings (7-4, 4-2 Cape Fear Valley) took a 10-7 lead with a five-run rally in the fifth and held on from there to win at county-rival North Moore (4-4, 3-2 Yadkin Valley) Monday night.
The Mustangs played Albemarle in a YVC game last night and will play at Gray Stone Day at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Union Pines will play at Western Harnett at 7 p.m. Thursday.

 

Harnett Central 9, Southeast Raleigh 0
Three Trojan pitchers, led by Austin Mendenhall going five innings, held Southeast Raleigh to one hit as Harnett Central (6-1, 4-0) won a Greater Neuse River Conference game Monday afternoon in Angier.
Cade Honeycutt went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBI for the Trojans. Daryl Johnson went 2 for 4 with two RBI. Mendenhall allowed one hit and one walk while getting 10 strikeouts.
Harnett Central played at Clayton last night and will host West Johnston this coming Tuesday at 7 p.m.

 

Pinecrest 5, Purnell Swett 1
Patriot senior Tristan Helms pitched a one-hitter leading Pinecrest (8-3, 1-2) to its first Southeastern win Monday night over Purnell Swett (8-2, 1-2). The Patriots jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Pinecrest hosted Richmond last night and is slated to play at Hoke County at 7 p.m. Friday.

 

Softball
Lee County 19, Westover 0
Lady Jacket senior Chandler Patterson, who's committed to continue her softball career at Campbell next school year, hit two home runs and knocked in six RBI as Lee County (5-2, 4-1) cruised to a Cape Fear Valley win at Westover (1-8, 0-5) Monday night.
Freshman Whitney Sanford was the winning pitcher, getting 10 strikeouts in the five-inning game. She had a double, a triple and two RBI as well.
Morgan Pedley had three doubles and two RBI. Savannah Patterson added three RBI. The Lady Jackets have won four straight games and scored in double digits in each of the four wins.
The Lady Jackets won the JV game in a shutout as well, defeating Westover 14-0.
Lee County hosted Southern Lee last night and will play a CFVC game at Gray's Creek at 7 p.m. Thursday.

 

Richmond 10, Union Pines 7
The Lady Raiders (12-0, 3-0 Southeastern) remained perfect with a win at Union Pines (6-3, 4-2 Cape Fear Valley) Monday night. The Lady Vikings led 3-1 after the first inning and 4-3 after scoring in the third inning.
Union Pines will play at Western Harnett at 7 p.m. Thursday.

 

Harnett Central 24, Southeast Raleigh 1
The Lady Trojans (5-2, 3-1) rolled to a Greater Neuse River win at home Monday afternoon. Harnett Central played Clayton last night and will host West Johnston at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Purnell Swett 2, Pinecrest 1
Purnell Swett (4-5, 2-1) edged the Lady Patriots (7-2, 2-1) in a Southeastern Conference game Monday in Southern Pines. Both sides scored in the first inning. The Lady Rams scored the go-ahead run in the fourth.
Jordan Blake pitched a complete game, allowing six hits, for Pinecrest. Blake went 2 for 3 at the plate. Bobbie McDaniel scored the Lady Patriot run.

 

Girls soccer
Grace Christian 4, Statesville Christian 1
The Lady Crusaders (8-0, 3-0 CCC) defeated No. 1 (NCISAA 1A) Statesville Christian (4-2-1) on their home field Monday afternoon.
Torie Boyte scored two goals and Grace Christian led 2-0 at halftime. Madison Bolen and Charity Taylor scored a goal each in the second half. Bolen tallied three assists.
Grace Christian head coach Chris Pratt credited Jazmine Urrutia's defensive effort as she man-marked Stateville's Deborah DeGraff throughout the match. DeGraff has committed to play at East Carolina.
The Lady Crusaders played at Community Christian yesterday and will host Hickory Christian at 4 p.m. Thursday.

 

Southern Lee 11, Douglas Byrd 0
The Lady Cavaliers (7-3, 5-2) scored 11 goals in the first half to end the match via mercy rule versus visiting Douglas Byrd Monday night. Southern Lee hosts Gray's Creek at 7 p.m. tonight. The Lady Cavs won 3-2 at Gray's Creek on March 10.

 

Gray's Creek 3, Lee County 0
Gray's Creek (7-3, 4-2) edged away with two second-half goals and completed a regular-season sweep of Lee County (2-5, 2-5) Monday night in Hope Mills. The Lady Yellow Jackets host Douglas Byrd at 7 p.m. tonight. Lee County beat Douglas Byrd 7-0 on March 10.

 

Lee Christian 4, Northwood Temple 2 - OT
The Lady Falcons (4-2, 3-2) scored twice in overtime, once in each 10-minute segment of the period, to get a Carolina Christian Conference win at home Monday afternoon. Lee Christian will play at Freedom Christian at 4 p.m. Thursday.

 

Union Pines 9, Westover 0
The Lady Vikings (8-1-1, 6-0-0) defeated Westover via mercy rule in a CFVC match Monday night. Union Pines plays at Terry Sanford at 7 p.m. tonight. The Lady Vikings edged Terry Sanford 3-2 in the first meeting this season.

 

Voyager Academy 2, Chatham Charter 0
Voyager Academy (3-2) defeated the visiting Lady Knights (1-2) Monday afternoon in Durham. Chatham Charter will host Kestrel Heights at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

Chatham Central 2, West Montgomery 1
The Lady Bears (2-5, 2-2) made it back-to-back Yadkin Valley wins with a victory at West Montgomery Monday. Chatham Central hosted Harnett Central last night and hosts South Davidson at 6 p.m. this evening.

 

Jordan-Matthews 4, Bartlett Yancey 1
The Lady Jets (5-4-1, 2-0-0 Mid-State) won a non-league match at Bartlett Yancey Monday evening. Jordan-Matthews played Reidsville last night and will host Graham on Monday.

 

Jack Britt 5, Overhills 0
Jack Britt blanked the visiting Lady Jaguars (3-6, 3-3) in a Mid-South Athletic match Monday night. Overhills played Pine Forest last night and will go to South View for a 7 p.m. kickoff Thursday.

 

Pinecrest 6, Richmond 0
The Lady Patriots (7-2-1, 5-1-0) led Richmond (2-6-1, 1-3-0) 2-0 at halftime and pulled away for an easy Southeastern Conference win at home Monday night. Pinecrest plays at Hoke County at 7 p.m. tonight.

 

Boys lacrosse
Roxboro Community 13, Northwood 10
Roxboro Community (4-4) led the Chargers 7-2 at halftime and held on despite seven goals by Northwood's Wesley Meyer on Monday evening. Roxboro ended the Chargers' six-game winning streak.
Jacob Bass, Josh Kaegi and Tyler Romel had a goal each for Northwood (6-2).
The Chargers will host Eastern Alamance at 6 p.m. Thursday.
