LCHS hunter safety team presents top honors
The Lee County Hunter Safety Team celebrated the end of its season and handed out special honors on Hunter Safety Program Top Shot Night at the Lee County Wildlife Club Monday night.
Morgan Cox won the Donald Buie Award of Excellence for the most deserving junior or senior on the hunter safety team.
To be eligible for the award, a team member must have been in the program for at least three years, be a great participant in leading the program and mentoring and helping teammates, give back to the Lee County Wildlife Club and community and be in excellent standing academically.
There was competition during the day and Conley Hunter won the Top Shot event. Storm Whitehead and Matthew Godley tied for second. Michael Sikinger placed third.
Cecil Yates was presented with an award for his countless hours of service and teaching he's given to the kids and program.
Lee County Sheriff Tracy Carter was a special guest. He talked about and demonstrated firearm safety during the Top Shot event and presented the awards to the team members.
The Lee County Wildlife Club sponsors, provides instruction and provides facilities for all of the high school, middle school, homeschool and private school hunter safety teams in the county.
