Cavs complete sweeps over Western Harnett

Southern Lee 35, Western Harnett 30

A night after getting their first win of the season, the Lady Eagles (1-15, 1-6) forced Southern Lee (9-9, 6-1) into a hard-fought Cape Fear Valley win at Cavalier Court Wednesday night.

After a 15-15 score at the half, the Lady Cavaliers edged ahead 22-19 going to the fourth period.

Erin Pickens led Southern Lee with 10 points and three rebounds. Brianna Taylor had seven points, five assists and five steals. Jordanna Kalkhof scored seven points as well. The Lady Cavs sweep the Lady Eagles for the season.

Western Harnett travels to Overhills for a CFVC game tonight at 6:30 p.m. Southern Lee, a game behind first-place Overhills in the conference, goes to Westover tonight for a 6 p.m. start.

Middle Creek 70, Lee County 40

Middle Creek (12-7, 7-4) cruised past the visiting Lady Yellow Jackets (5-14, 0-11) in Apex Wednesday night.

De'ja Bland led Lee County with 14 points, six steals and three rebounds. Quitta Wilson scored six points. Betsy Dohrer led Middle Creek with 15 points.

Lee County hosts Cary for a Tri-Nine game tonight at 7 p.m.

Overhills 52, Westover 51

The Lady Jaguars (12-5, 7-0) pulled out a back-and-forth game to remain undefeated in the Cape Fear Valley Wednesday night.

Westover (11-7, 4-3) led 22-12 after one quarter, trailed 27-26 at the half, then led 39-36 headed to the fourth. Overhills sweeps Westover for the season.

Sophomore Ge'Naisha Robinson led the Lady Jags, who've won six straight games, with 17 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Katelyn Clark had 15 points and three assists. Janna Aultman had six points and 10 boards.

Overhills hosts Western Harnett tonight at 6:30 p.m.


Harnett Central 43, Garner 41 - 2OT

Host Harnett Central (15-2, 7-2) needed two overtimes to get its sixth straight win, edging Garner (0-14, 0-8) in a Greater Neuse River game.

Garner won the fourth period 10-7 to tie the game 33-33. It was 37-37 after one overtime.

Senior DeAnneisha Jackson led the Lady Trojans with 11 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Jalisia Campbell had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Kiyana Stokes led Garner with 13 points.

Harnett Central travels to face East Wake tonight at 6:30 p.m.


Boys basketball

Southern Lee 43, Western Harnett 27

The Cavaliers (9-8, 6-1) clamped down on the visiting Eagles (2-16, 1-6) to win their sixth straight game and, along with Overhills topping Westover on Wednesday, move into a first-place tie with Westover in the Cape Fear Valley ahead of tonight's Southern Lee at Westover contest.

Southern Lee led 24-14 at halftime and kept going for a season sweep against the Eagles.

Western Harnett plays at Overhills tonight at 8 p.m. The Cavs clash with the Wolverines tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Fayetteville. Westover beat Southern Lee 51-38 in their first meeting of the season.

Overhills 68, Westover 58

Overhills (11-6, 5-2) handed the visiting Wolverines (14-4, 6-1) their first CFVC loss on Wednesday night. The Jaguars are 8-2 in their last 10 games.

Overhills hosts Western Harnett tonight while Westover hosts Southern Lee.


Garner 69, Harnett Central 42

Garner (14-2, 8-0) rolled to a conference win at Harnett Central Wednesday night. Demarcus Sanford led Garner with 12 points, seven steals and six rebounds.

Sophomore Don Singletary led Harnett Central with 13 points and Hunter Baker added eight points.

Harnett Central (7-10, 3-6) goes to East Wake tonight for an 8 p.m. tip.
