Area scores: Lady Chargers team up for no-hitter

Northwood 15, Chapel Hill 0

Northwood's Anna Jasper and Kathy Boone combined to pitch four-inning no-hitter as the Lady Chargers (6-0, 3-0) routed Big Eight foe Chapel Hill 15-0 Wednesday evening.

The Lady Charger offense was equally impressive knocking 15 hits including three doubles. Northwood opened up a 6-0 lead through two innings. Carson Shaner's two-run double and Payton Springle's two-run single highlighted the first inning. Northwood tacked on nine runs in the fourth frame to end the game early.

Jasper and Boone teamed to allow two walks and get five strikeouts in the no-hitter.

Springle and Samantha Droese each went 3 for 3 at the plate with Springle driving in four RBI and Droese scoring three runs and getting two RBI. Ally McKee went 3 for 4 and scored three runs. McKenzie Allgood went 2 for 2 with two walks and scored twice.

The Lady Chargers complete a two-game series versus Chapel Hill at Chapel Hill at 6:30 p.m. this evening.


North Moore 11, Pinecrest 1
North Moore (6-0, 4-0 Yadkin Valley) scored seven runs in the home half of the sixth for a mercy-rule win over county rival Pinecrest (6-1, 1-0 Southeastern) Wednesday evening in Robbins.
Each side got a run in the second before the Lady Mustangs took a 2-1 lead in the third. North Moore outhit the Lady Patriots 14-5.
Cyrenia Chalfinch pitched a complete game for the Lady Mustangs, giving up five hits and no walks while getting six strikeouts.
North Moore plays a YVC game at West Montgomery at 6 p.m. this evening.
Pinecrest played at Scotland last night and hosts Purnell Swett at 7 p.m. tonight.


Triton 9, Princeton 8 - 9 innings
Triton (5-3, 1-0 Two Rivers) rallied twice for an extra-inning win at home Wednesday night. The Lady Hawks trailed 6-0 before scoring three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth. In the ninth, Princeton scored two runs only for the Lady Hawks to answer with three and win.
Princeton (5-3) defeated Triton 7-5 last week. On Monday, the Lady Hawks beat South Johnston 4-3 in 10 innings.
Alexis Hobson hit a solo homer and went 3 for 4 for the Lady Hawks. Kayce Graves went 3 for 5 with a double, a run and two RBI. Jordon Jackson also drove in two RBI.
Triton plays a Two Rivers game at Cleveland at 6 p.m. this evening.


South Stanly 4, Chatham Central 3
South Stanly (5-3, 4-2) scored a run in the top of the seventh to take the lead and beat the Lady Bears (2-3, 2-2) in a Yadkin Valley game Wednesday evening. Chatham Central led 3-0 through four frames.
The Lady Bears played West Montgomery last night and go to South Davidson today for a 4:30 p.m. start.


Western Harnett 11, Corinth Holders 8 - 10 innings
The Lady Eagles (3-5, 1-0) outlasted Corinth Holders (3-5, 0-1) to win both programs' first-ever Two Rivers Conference game at Corinth Holders.
Western Harnett trailed 6-4 going to the seventh, took a 7-6 lead, but Corinth Holders scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh. Both sides plated a run in the eighth. The Lady Eagles took the lead for good with three runs in the 10th.
Western Harnett hosts Smithfield-Selma for a conference game at 7 p.m. tonight.


Pinecrest 14, Lee County 2
The Patriots (7-2, 0-1 Southeastern) rolled to their second win of the season over the Yellow Jackets (4-4, 3-0 Cape Fear Valley) Wednesday evening in Southern Pines.
Pinecrest broke the game open with a nine-run third inning taking a 14-1 lead for what led to a five-inning win.
Pressley Hales got three of Lee County's five hits in the game.
Zach Martinez pitched three innings and got the win for the Patriots. Zach Atkins started and pitched two innings allowing no hits and no walks. Dalton Bullard drove in three RBI for the Patriots.
Lee County played at Terry Sanford last night and plays another CFVC game at Westover at 7 p.m. tonight.
Pinecrest played at Scotland last night and hosts Purnell Swett in SEC play at 7 p.m. tonight.


Jordan-Matthews 4, North Moore 3
The Jets (6-2, 1-0 Mid-State) won their fourth straight game holding off North Moore (4-2, 3-1 Yadkin Valley) Wednesday night in Siler City.
The Mustangs scored twice in the sixth to draw within a run but the Jets hung on from there.
J.W. Dick pitched a complete game for the Mustangs, allowing five hits and four runs - one earned run. Kirby Lambert went 2 for 2 with a double and two runs.
Jordan-Matthews played Graham last night and hosts Uwharrie Charter at 7 p.m. tonight.
North Moore hosts West Montgomery for a league game at 7 p.m. tonight.


Northwood 12, Chapel Hill 2
The Chargers (4-4, 2-1) routed visiting Chapel Hill (4-3, 2-1) in six innings in a Big Eight Conference game Wednesday night.
Northwood took the lead with three runs in the second and scored in each frame the rest of the way. Logan Crabtree drove in four runs for the Chargers.
Lane Childress started on the mound and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings. Brodie Beasley pitched the rest of the way to get the win.
Northwood visits Chapel Hill this evening for a 6:30 p.m. start.


Chatham Central 10, West Montgomery 0
Bear senior Chase Fuquay pitched a two-hit shutout, firing 12 strikeouts as well, as Chatham Central (2-4, 2-2) beat the Warriors (2-5, 1-3) in six innings in a Yadkin Valley game Wednesday.
The Bears opened up a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Andrew Jurden, Tyler Welch and Fuquay had two RBI each. Matt Brooks and Brandon Beal had two hits apiece.
Chatham Central hosted West Montgomery last night and hosts South Davidson at 7 p.m. tonight.


Corinth Holders 10, Western Harnett 3
The Pirates (4-4, 1-0) beat the visiting Eagles (2-6, 0-1) in the first-ever Two Rivers Conference game for both sides. The Eagles scored three runs in the fourth pulling within a 4-3 score before the Pirates pulled away.
Western Harnett hosts Smithfield-Selma for a league game at 7 p.m. tonight.

Overhills 9, E.E. Smith 0
Lady Jaguar junior Jordan Forbess scored five goals and added an assist and sophomore Pilar Pomales had a goal and four assists as Overhills rolled to a Mid-South Athletic Conference win at home Wednesday.
Kaley Olson, Virginia Glockson and Cheyann Lindholm scored a goal apiece.
The Lady Jaguars (3-5, 3-2) played Triton last night and will play at Jack Britt at 7 p.m. Monday.


Union Pines 7, Jordan-Matthews 0
The Lady Vikings (6-1-1, 5-0-0 Cape Fear Valley) routed Jordan-Matthews (3-4-1, 1-0-0 Mid-State) in Siler City Wednesday.
Union Pines hosts Richmond at 7 p.m. tonight. The Lady Jets played Cummings last night and will go to Bartlett Yancey Monday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.


East Montgomery 8, Chatham Central 1
The Lady Eagles (6-1, 3-1) beat the visiting Lady Bears (0-5, 0-2) in a Yadkin Valley match Wednesday. Chatham Central hosted Albemarle last night and will play at West Montgomery at 6 p.m. Monday.


Cardinal Gibbons 5, Northwood 0
Cardinal Gibbons (7-0-2, 2-0-0) defeated the visiting Lady Chargers (4-3, 1-2) in a Big Eight match Wednesday night. Northwood will host J.F. Webb at 6 p.m. Monday.


Pinecrest 9, Purnell Swett 0
The Lady Patriots (6-1-1, 4-1-0) rolled to their second 9-0 win over Purnell Swett this season Wednesday night. Pinecrest hosts Cape Fear for a non-conference match at 7 p.m. tonight.

Northwood 17, Southern Alamance 0
The Chargers romped to a 12-0 halftime lead and an easy victory at home Wednesday evening.
Wesley Meyer led the Chargers with four goals. Cameron Moore scored three goals with two apiece by Tyler Romel, Jacob Bass and James Emmerling.
Northwood (5-1) plays at Northern Vance at 6 p.m. this evening.

The Mustangs (8-2, 7-2) earned a season split with the Eagles in a Yadkin Valley match Wednesday. North Moore will host South Davidson at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
