Yellow Jackets take sweep vs. Cary

Lee County 11, Cary 9

Lee County (8-11, 5-7) moved into a tie for fifth place in the Tri-Nine Conference with its third straight win Wednesday night in Cary. The Jackets sweep the Imps (4-16, 2-12) for the season and it’s Lee County’s first three-game winning streak of the season.

The Yellow Jackets scored six runs in the sixth taking an 11-2 lead, then had to hold on as the Imps scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Cole Patterson and Hampton Thomas drove in three RBI each. Chase Arrington went 3-for-5 at the plate. Thomas pitched 6.0 innings and got 10 strikeouts while getting the win.

Lee County is tied with Apex (6-8 Tri-Nine) for the fifth and last state tournament spot in the league. The Jackets have four Tri-Nine games to play. Lee County plays at Green Hope tonight at 7 p.m.

Jordan-Matthews 14, Bartlett Yancey 9

The Jets scored seven runs, all coming off two home runs, in the top of the seventh to rally and win at Bartlett Yancey Wednesday night.

Hunter Causey hit a three-run homer to but the Jets ahead 10-9. Justin Kidd hit a grand slam to make it 14-9.

Jordan-Matthews (14-6, 7-4) hosts Graham tonight at 7 p.m.

Randleman 9, Northwood 8 - 9 innings

Randleman (17-5 overall) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, then edged the visiting Chargers (15-5, 11-0) in the ninth in a non-conference game Wednesday night.

Northwood hosts Durham School of the Arts tonight at 7 p.m.


Union Pines 16, Southern Lee 5

The Lady Vikings (13-3, 9-1) kept control of first place in the Cape Fear Valley with a victory at Southern Lee (2-13, 1-8) Wednesday night.

Union Pines, with two CFVC games to play, leads Western Harnett by a half-game. Union Pines played Overhills last night and will play at Lee County Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Southern Lee plays at Overhills tonight at 6 p.m.

Western Harnett 5, Douglas Byrd 2

The Lady Eagles (12-4, 9-2) made it four straight wins with a league win at home over Douglas Byrd (10-8, 5-7) Wednesday night. Western Harnett played Cleveland last night and hosts Westover tonight at 7 p.m.

Bartlett Yancey 3, Jordan-Matthews 1

Bartlett Yancey completed a regular season sweep of the Lady Jets (10-6, 8-3) Wednesday night. Jordan-Matthews played Northwood last night and hosts Graham in a Mid-State game tonight at 6 p.m.

Triton 7, Cleveland 3

Triton (13-4, 9-2) kept pace atop the Eastern Carolina Conference with a win at Cleveland Wednesday night.

Kasey Matthews went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for the Lady Hawks while Kayce Graves added a 2-for-4 night with a double and two RBI.

Triton, C.B. Aycock and South Johnston are tied with 9-2 league marks with one game for each play. Triton plays at South Johnston tonight at 6 p.m.

Green Hope 9, Lee County 0

Green Hope (19-0, 14-0) rolled to a Tri-Nine win over the visiting Lady Yellow Jackets Wednesday evening. Lee County (0-14, 0-13) played Panther Creek last night and, with three matches in three nights, will play at Southern Lee tonight at 7 p.m.

Overhills 1, Gray’s Creek 0

The Lady Jaguars (9-5-3, 7-2-1) avenged a 3-0 loss to Gray’s Creek (8-5-2, 7-3-0) earlier this season with a win at Hope Mills Wednesday night, moving ahead of Gray’s Creek into second in the Cape Fear Valley standings.

Overhills play South View last night and will play at Southern Lee Monday at 7 p.m.

Chatham Central 1, Albemarle 0

Chatham Central (6-8-2, 6-7-1) made it a 4-0-1 record in its last five matches, along with three shutouts in that span, completing a regular season of Albemarle Wednesday night.

The Lady Bears play at North Moore Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Gray Stone Day 7, North Moore 0

The Lady Knights (14-0-0 YVC) rolled to an easy YVC win over visiting North Moore (2-10-1) Wednesday night. North Moore will host Chatham Central Monday night.

Northwood 1, Durham School of the Arts 0

Northwood (6-7-1, 5-5-0) defeated the Lady Bulldogs in a Carolina 12 match Wednesday night in Pittsboro. The Lady Chargers will play at South Granville Monday at 6 p.m.

West Johnston 3, Harnett Central 0

West Johnston (14-0-1, 11-0-0) stayed perfect in the Greater Neuse River by beating the visiting Lady Trojans (8-6, 5-6) Wednesday night. Harnett Central will host Knightdale Monday at 6 p.m.
