Lee County's Nikki Hoover and Chandler Patterson and Southern Lee's Jennibeth Burge were named to the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association's All-State teams earlier this month.

On the NCHSAA 1A team, state semifinalist Chatham Central, during a 26-2 overall record, had seven players earn all-state honors, including 1A West Player of the Year Cayley Oldham and 1A West Co-Pitcher of the Year Kelsey Hayes.

Burge, primarily a shortstop but also a catcher for the Lady Cavaliers, graduated in June and will be attending and playing softball at Charleston Southern, an NCAA Div. I program in the Big South Conference.

Hoover and Patterson made the all-state team in Lee County's last 4A season before joining Southern Lee in 3A and the Cape Fear Valley Conference. Hoover, a senior catcher/first baseman, had 16 RBI, six doubles and four home runs this spring. Chandler, a junior shortstop, had 18 RBI, eight doubles and five homers.

Oldham, a senior third baseman, and Hayes, a senior, led the Lady Bear group. Senior catcher Erin Sugg, senior outfielder/pitcher Kayla Williamson, senior outfielder Jessica Cockman, junior shortstop Antonia Nelson and sophomore outfielder Anna Brafford were named all-state. Chatham Central won the Yadkin Valley season and tournament titles, going 26-0 before falling to West Wilkes in the West Region final/state semifinal.

Yadkin Valley neighbor North Moore had five players earn all-state honors. Senior third baseman Jessie Sheffield, junior center fielder Heather Dunmyer, sophomore shortstop Casey Turner, sophomore first baseman Kasi Martin and freshman pitcher Cyrenia Chalfinch were the all-state Lady Mustangs.

In 3A, Triton had senior third baseman Kaitlin Ennis, junior outfielder Kasey Matthews and junior second baseman/left fielder Erica Occena named all-state.

In 4A, Harnett Central sophomore shortstop Natalie Stewart and sophomore catcher Anna Bain were all-state.
