Crusaders turn deficit into easy victory

Baseball

Grace Christian 19, Northwood Temple 5

Northwood Temple led 5-0 going to the fifth inning before the visiting Crusaders got going for a Carolina Christian Conference win Monday evening.

The Crusaders (8-5, 3-1) scored five runs in the fifth to tie the score. Grace went on to take an 8-5 lead in the sixth and score 11 runs in the seventh.

Aaron Ayers had four RBI while Micah Welborn, Iden Swartzentruber and Jonathan Husk knocked in two each. Caleb Welborn got the win on the mound.

Holding second place in the CCC, the Crusaders played at Wayne Christian last night and will host Wake Christian Thursday at 5 p.m.

Triton 10, Cape Fear Christian 2

After a tied ballgame through two frames, Triton took the lead in the third and scored the last eight runs of the game at Cape Fear Christian (6-4, 4-0) Monday evening.

Matthew Pope pitched 3.1 innings and got the win. Todd Penny went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBI. Matthew Webb and Tanner Ferguson scored two runs each.

Triton (13-5, 5-3) hosts Jack Britt tonight at 6 p.m. Cape Fear Christian will host Northwood Temple in a CCC game on April 23.

 

North Moore 10, South Davidson 0

The Mustangs (8-10, 7-6) needed five innings to get a Yadkin Valley win at home Monday night. North Moore will play at East Montgomery Friday night at 7 p.m.

Softball

Middle Creek 6, Lee County 5

Middle Creek (10-3, 8-1) had to fight back to hold off the Lady Yellow Jackets' upset bid in Cary Monday night.

Lee County (3-10, 2-8) scored four runs in the top of the first inning and still held a 5-4 edge until the Lady Mustangs scored two runs in the sixth.

Lee County hosts Western Harnett tonight at 6:30 p.m. Lee County's home date against Cary has been moved from Friday to Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Northwood 2, Northern Durham 1

Northern Durham got on the board in the top of the seventh but the Lady Chargers (9-2, 6-0) held on for a non-league victory in Pittsboro Monday night.

Anna Jasper threw a four-hit complete game for the win. McKenzie Allgood went 2-for-3 with a double for the Lady Chargers.

Northwood played at Granville Central last night and will go to Cedar Ridge Friday for a 6 p.m. start.

 

South Johnston 5, Triton 3

South Johnston (11-4, 6-1) broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh and got a Eastern Carolina win at Triton (11-4, 7-2) Monday night.

Kasey Matthews went 3-for-4 and Erica Ocenna scored two runs for the Lady Hawks.

Triton will play at Cleveland Friday at 6 p.m.

Girls soccer

Southern Lee 2, South View 2

The Lady Cavaliers (4-4-1, 3-2-0) earned a draw on the road at South View (5-9-4, 3-4-2) Monday night. Southern Lee travels to play Westover in a conference match tonight at 6 p.m. and will host Douglas Byrd Thursday at 6 p.m.

Jordan-Matthews 2, Providence Grove 1 - OT

Karina Aguila scored both Lady Jet goals, including the winner in overtime, as Jordan-Matthews (6-4-1, 4-2-1) got a Mid-State win Monday night in Siler City.

Jordan-Matthews hosts Bartlett Yancey this evening at 6 p.m.

Gray's Creek 3, Western Harnett 1

The Lady Bears (7-3-2, 6-1-0) got a Cape Fear Valley win at Western Harnett Monday night. Ashley Piers scored two goals for Gray's Creek.

The Lady Eagles played at Overhills last night and will play at Triton Thursday at 6 p.m.

Triton 3, South Johnston 0

Triton scored all of its goals after halftime for an Eastern Carolina win Monday in Erwin. Emily Neville, Maria Coria and Jessica Portillo scored a goal each.

The Lady Hawks (7-7, 5-4) will host Western Harnett Thursday at 6 p.m.

West Montgomery 4, North Moore 1

West Montgomery (4-6-1) beat visiting North Moore (2-7-1) in a Yadkin Valley match Monday night. North Moore will host North Rowan Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

 

Clayton 6, Harnett Central 1

Clayton (5-6-1, 4-2-1) rolled to a Greater Neuse River win at Harnett Central (7-3, 4-3) Monday night. Harnett Central plays a conference match at East Wake tonight at 6 p.m.

Pinecrest 3, Scotland 1

The Lady Patriots (7-2-3, 6-0-0) finished a season sweep over Scotland (6-8-2, 3-4-0) and stayed atop the Southeastern Conference Monday night. Pinecrest hosts Purnell Swett tonight at 7 p.m.

 

Cape Fear Academy 3, O'Neal 2

Cape Fear Academy (5-4-1, 3-1-0) got a Cape Fear Independent win at Mauser Field Monday afternoon.

Chloe Hoffman scored both goals for the Lady Falcons. Hannah Sullivan had an assist. Cape Fear Academy pulled away from a 1-1 halftime score.

O'Neal (1-5-1, 0-3-0) played at Fayetteville Christian yesterday and will play at Trinity School Thursday at 4 p.m.
