The Yellow Jackets won their second straight match and turned around a 3-0 defeat at Hoke County from two weeks ago at home Thursday night.

Sophomore Ivan Mireles scored the winning goal in the first half. It's his first goal of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Hunter Watson made four saves for his second straight shutout.

Lee County (2-3, 1-1) moves back to CFVC play hosting Union Pines at 7 p.m. Monday.


Grace Christian 2, O'Neal 1

The Crusaders (7-2-1, 2-0-0) got out to a 2-0 lead in the first 14 minutes of play and hung on at Southern Pines Thursday afternoon.

Joel Benitez and Evan Kannarr scored the Crusader goals. Victor Mondragon and Jose Leonidez had an assist apiece.

O'Neal's Rick Catania scored to cut the Crusader lead to 2-1 in the 53rd minute.

The Crusaders played Lee Christian yesterday and will play at Neuse Christian at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Falcons play at Cape Fear Academy at 2 p.m. today.

Midway 3, Triton 0

Midway (2-1-2) blanked the visiting Hawks (1-5-1) Thursday night. Triton will host Overhills at 6 p.m. Monday.

Cedar Ridge 7, Northwood 2

Hannah Holloway at No. 1 singles, winning 4-6, 6-0, 1-0, then Holloway with partner Emma Goodrich in doubles, winning 8-4, won the only two Lady Charger points in a Big Eight match at Cedar Ridge Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Chargers (2-4, 1-3) will host Orange at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The Lady Patriots (3-0, 3-0) defeated Purnell Swett in a Southeastern match Thursday. Pinecrest will meet Union Pines at the Pinehurst Tennis Club at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Overhills 5, E.E. Smith 4

The Lady Jaguars (3-0, 3-0) edged visiting E.E. Smith in a Mid-South Athletic match Thursday. Overhills will play at Cape Fear at 4 p.m. Monday.

 
Volleyball

Union Pines d. Southern Lee 25-16, 28-26, 19-25, 25-23

The Lady Vikings (6-3, 3-1) topped the Lady Cavaliers (3-1, 2-1) in a Cape Fear Valley match in Cameron Thursday night .

Stephanie Johnson had 10 total blocks and nine kills as the Lady Vikings made 19 total blocks as a team. Megan Harris had 15 assists. Alex Prots made 20 digs.

Union Pines will host West Montgomery at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Southern Lee will host Westover at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.


Pinecrest d. Lumberton 24-26, 25-21, 25-17, 25-18

Pinecrest (5-3, 1-0) started its Southeastern Conference schedule with a win at Lumberton Thursday night.

Katie Smith had 21 assists and 15 digs for the Lady Patriots. Mary Schlaff had 22 digs, Devin Lally had 14 kills and Danika Whitford had 10 kills.

Pinecrest travels to Wilmington to play Laney today.


O'Neal 3, Grace Christian 2

The Lady Falcons (2-3) edged the Lady Crusaders (1-4, 0-2) in Southern Pines Thursday evening after Grace Christian topped O'Neal in five sets in Sanford in August.

O'Neal plays at Cape Fear Academy at 2:30 p.m. today. Grace Christian played Lee Christian last night and will go to Neuse Christian for a 5:30 p.m. start Tuesday.

Garner d. Harnett Central 25-12, 25-11, 25-13

Garner (9-1, 4-0) beat visiting Harnett Central (0-9, 0-4) in a Greater Neuse River match Thursday. Harnett Central will play at East Wake at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

West Montgomery d. North Moore 25-23, 25-21, 24-26, 25-14

West Montgomery (9-0, 5-0) won a Yadkin Valley match at North Moore Thursday night.

Dara Forrest led the Lady Mustangs with 10 kills and Dana Wolfe had nine kills.

The Lady Mustangs (3-4, 2-3) will play at O'Neal at 6 p.m. Monday.

Overhills 3, Seventy-First 0

The Lady Jaguars (6-2, 3-0) remained perfect in their new conference, winning a Mid-South Athletic match at home Thursday night. Overhills will play at Western Harnett at 6 p.m. Monday.

Providence Grove d. Jordan-Matthews 25-17, 25-14, 25-10

Providence Grove swept the visiting Lady Jets Thursday night. Jordan-Matthews (1-7) will play at Northwood at 6 p.m. Monday.

J.F. Webb d. Northwood 25-5, 25-23, 25-17

J.F. Webb (2-2, 1-1) won a Big Eight match in Pittsboro Thursday night. The Lady Chargers (1-4, 0-3) will host Jordan-Matthews at 6 p.m. Monday.

JV Football

Southern Lee 13, St. Pauls 6

The JV Cavaliers defended their home field Thursday night, improving to 2-1. Southern Lee will play at Triton at 7 p.m. this coming Thursday.


Lee County 26, Athens Drive 0

The JV Yellow Jackets shutout the Jaguars in Raleigh Thursday night, going to a 2-0 mark. Lee County will host Western Harnett at 7 p.m. this coming Thursday.


Triton 33, Harnett Central 13

The Hawks (1-0) beat the visiting Trojans (1-1) in a county rivalry game Thursday night. Triton will host Southern Lee at 7 p.m. Thursday.


Northwood 36, Jordan-Matthews 0

The Chargers (2-0) rolled to a victory over their county rivals in Pittsboro Thursday night. Northwood hosts Carrboro at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Jets (0-2) are off until hosting Eastern Randolph on Sept. 19.


Union Pines 18, Providence Grove 6

The Vikings (2-0) topped visiting Providence Grove Thursday night in Cameron. Union Pines will go to Trinity Thursday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
