Cavs open league slate with road win
Southern Lee 6, Western Harnett 4
The Cavaliers made it back-to-back wins and started their Cape Fear Valley season with a victory in Lillington Friday night.
The Cavaliers (2-1, 1-0) hit the road again Tuesday to play at Jordan-Matthews at 7 p.m. Southern Lee will host Jack Britt Thursday at 7 p.m.
Western Harnett (1-2, 0-1) will host Gray's Creek in a conference game Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Pinecrest 6, Lee County 3
Lee County jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening inning but the Patriots (4-0) held the Yellow Jackets (0-2) from there in Southern Pines Friday night.
Pinecrest took the lead with three runs in the fourth. Lee County outhit the Patriots 10-4.
Cullen Bayless got the win for the Patriots and Tristan Helms hit a home run.
Pinecrest plays at Asheboro Monday at 5 p.m.
Lee County played at Grimsley yesterday and is slated for its home opener Tuesday night against Cary at 7 p.m.
Kerr-Vance Academy 9, Grace Christian 1
Kerr-Vance spoiled Grace Christian's home opener Friday afternoon. Wyatt Evans got the win pitching five innings while adding five hits, four runs and three RBI at the plate.
Micah Welborn led the Crusaders going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Montgomery Kirby took the loss on the mound.
Grace Christian (0-1) travels to play Friendship Christian Tuesday at 4 p.m.
West Montgomery 6, Chatham Central 2
West Montgomery (3-0, 1-0) held the Bears (1-2, 1-1) to five hits and won a Yadkin Valley game at Bear Creek Friday night.
Zack Burke took the loss, pitching four innings and giving up four unearned runs and one earned run. Burke went 2-for-3 with a run at the plate. Chase Fuquay had a triple, a run and an RBI for the Bears.
Chatham Central hosts South Stanly Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Jordan-Matthews 13, Hillside 3
The Jets broke open a 2-2 game with three runs in the bottom of the third and went on to an easy win over visiting Hillside Friday.
Justin Kidd went 2-for-3 with four RBI for the Jets (3-0). Derek Hamilton and Andrew Myles added two RBI each. Ethan Cook got the win.
Jordan-Matthews will host Southern Lee Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Union Pines 11, Douglas Byrd 1
The Vikings (4-1, 1-0) made it four straight victories in their Cape Fear Valley opener at Douglas Byrd Friday night, Union Pines goes to Overhills for a CFVC game Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Western Harnett 18, Southern Lee 2
The Lady Eagles (1-1, 1-0) got their first win of the year opening up Cape Fear Valley play at home Friday night. Western Harnett won the CFVC Tournament and reached the third round of the NCHSAA 3A State Tournament last season.
Southern Lee (0-1, 0-1) after four postponements so far, including two home dates, is slated for its home opener against Lee County on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Western Harnett will host Gray's Creek Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Union Pines 7, Douglas Byrd 3
Union Pines (2-1, 1-0) opened CFVC play with a win at Douglas Byrd Friday night. The Lady Vikings will play at Overhills Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Chatham Central 2, West Montgomery 1
The Lady Bears (3-0, 3-0) gave up their first run of the season but remained undefeated Friday night at West Montgomery.
Chatham Central continues in Yadkin Valley action at South Stanly Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Triton 7, Southern Wayne 6
Triton (3-1, 1-1) got its first Eastern Carolina win of the season at Southern Wayne Friday night. Triton led 7-1 going to the sixth then held on after the Lady Saints scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Cassidy Hayes and Kasey Matthews had two RBI each for Triton and Julie Hodges pitched a complete game.
Triton hosts Princeton Monday at 6 p.m.
Southern Lee 4, Western Harnett 0
The Lady Cavaliers (1-1, 1-0) got their first victory of the season at Western Harnett (0-2, 0-1) Friday afternoon as the Cavs and Eagles opened their conference seasons.
Southern Lee plays at Triton Friday at 7 p.m. Western Harnett goes to Harnett Central Tuesday for a 6 p.m. start.
Jordan-Matthews 4, Lee Christian 1
The Lady Jets (1-2) defeated the visiting Lady Falcons (0-2) Friday afternoon. Jordan-Matthews goes on to its first Mid-State match, hosting Graham Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Lee Christian hosts O'Neal Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Pinecrest 2, New Hanover 0
Keegan Lynch scored in the first half and Kathryn Palmer scored on a penalty kick in the second half for a Lady Patriot win in Southern Pines Friday night.
Pinecrest (3-0-1, 2-0-0) hosts Lumberton in a Southeastern Conference match Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Northern Durham 3, Northwood 1
Northwood (2-2, 1-0) lost on the road Friday night. The Lady Chargers go back to Carolina 12 play hosting Voyager Monday at 6 p.m.
Triton 3, Southern Wayne 1
Carolina Rosado scored two goals and Maria Coria scored one for the Lady Hawks (2-2, 1-1) in an Eastern Carolina win at Southern Wayne (3-1, 0-1) Friday. Kala West made seven saves in goal for Triton.
Triton hosts North Lenoir in an ECC match Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Harnett Central 3, Overhills 0
The Lady Trojans (2-0) got a shutout at county rival Overhills (1-2-1) Friday night. Harnett Central hosts Southeast Raleigh Monday at 6 p.m. and Overhills travels to Westover Monday for a 6 p.m. start.
