Area scores: Vikings slug past Western Harnett

Union Pines 19, Western Harnett 6
The Vikings (3-2, 1-1 CFVC) piled up seven runs in the home half of the first, then a 10-run fourth inning for a 19-3 lead, to defeat the rival Eagles (2-3) in five innings Wednesday night in Cameron.
Mason Collins went 2 for 4 with a three-run home run. Emmitt Carden, Brandon Oakley and Clay Thomas drove in two RBI each. Tyler McRae went 3 for 3 with a run and an RBI. Evan Shearer got the win on the mound going 1.2 innings with no runs, no hits, no walks and three strikeouts.
Union Pines will host Terry Sanford for a Cape Fear Valley game at 7 p.m. Monday. Western Harnett hosts Pinecrest this evening at 5 p.m.

Pinecrest 11, Fuquay-Varina 1
The Patriots (4-1) won in six innings at Fuquay-Varina (2-3) Wednesday evening. Tristan Helms pitched five innings and got the victory.
Pinecrest scored a run to take the lead in the third inning, then added two more for a 3-0 lead in the fourth. The Patriots outhit the Bengals 12-7.
Pinecrest plays at Western Harnett at 5 p.m. today.

Faith Christian 11, Chatham Charter 3
Faith Christian (1-0) topped the host Knights (0-1) in their first-ever varsity baseball game on Tuesday afternoon in Siler City.
Chatham Charter plays at Franklin Academy at 4 p.m. today.

Softball
Fuquay-Varina 12, Southern Lee 0
Fuquay-Varina blanked the Lady Cavaliers (0-3, 0-1 CFVC) Wednesday at Southern Lee. The Lady Cavs host Gray's Creek for a Cape Fear Valley game at 7 p.m. tonight.

Jordan-Matthews 11, Graham 1
The Lady Jets (3-2, 1-0) opened their Mid-State Conference slate by scoring in all five innings and rolling past Graham (0-2, 0-1) Wednesday in Siler City. Jordan-Matthews played Union Pines yesterday and will play at Northwood at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Cape Fear 8, Triton 0
The Lady Colts (4-0) made it two wins in three days versus Triton (3-2) Wednesday in Erwin. Triton played Midway last night and will travel to face Overhills at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Girls soccer
Union Pines 4, Lee County 0
The Lady Vikings took a 3-0 lead by halftime and continued on to a Cape Fear Valley victory at Lee County Wednesday night.
Union Pines (2-0-1, 2-0-0) plays at Westover at 6 p.m. this evening.
Goalkeeper Maritza Santos made 13 saves for the Lady Jackets. Lee County (1-2, 1-2) played Terry Sanford last night and will travel for a return match versus the Lady Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Northwood 4, Jordan-Matthews 0
Northwood (2-1) shut out visiting county rival Jordan-Matthews (1-2-1) Wednesday night. The Lady Chargers will play at Northern Durham at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Jordan-Matthews played at Eastern Randolph last night and will play at Providence Grove at 6 p.m. Monday.

Cape Fear 3, Overhills 0
The Lady Colts (4-1, 1-0) scored all three goals in the opening half for a Mid-South Athletic Conference win versus the visiting Lady Jaguars (0-2, 0-1) Wednesday.
Overhills played at Western Harnett last night and will host Triton at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Clinton 5, Triton 1
Following a 2-2 draw between the Lady Dark Horses and Lady Hawks last week at Triton, Clinton (3-1-1) cruised to a victory at home Wednesday night.
Morgan Goff scored the Triton goal. Kala West made 12 saves for the Lady Hawks.
Triton (2-2-1) played Midway last night and will host Cleveland to begin Two Rivers Conference play at 6 p.m. Monday.

Harnett Central 4, Southeast Raleigh 0
The Lady Trojans (2-2, 1-1) got their first Greater Neuse River victory of the season over Southeast Raleigh (1-3, 1-1) Wednesday night in Angier. Harnett Central will host Knightdale for a GNRC match at 6 p.m. Monday.
