McCurry keeps season lead on G Pro Tour

Sanford's Jonathan McCurry and West End's Andy Bare finished among a three-way tie for third Wednesday in the G Pro Tour's tournament at Charlotte's TPC Piper Glen.

Jake Scott, of Strongsville, Ohio, fired rounds of 66 and 63 to finish 15-under par and win the tournament by six strokes. Atlanta's Brent Witcher finished 9-under par.

McCurry and Bare both shot 70 in the first round on Tuesday, then 67 in the last round, to be 7-under par. Bruce McDonald, of Charlotte, was also tied for third.

Scott won $3,200 for the victory. The tie for third netted $1,166.66 per player.

McCurry, of Southern Lee High School and UNC-Pembroke, and Bare, who was a standout at UNC Greensboro, both have two victories in 2013 on the G Pro Tour. McCurry, with $7,266.66 in winnings, leads the tour's money list. Bare is second on the season.

The G Pro Tour runs through October and has seven tournaments to go. The next tournament is set for Aug. 19-20 at Raintree Country Club in Charlotte.
