Christiana McLean, a rising seventh grader at New Century Middle School in Cameron, shot hoops and ran drills with college coaches and athletes at the Wes Moore Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp at North Carolina State Aug. 1-4.

Christiana is the daughter of Robin C. Liles of Aberdeen. She earned a Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarship from Central Electric Membership Corporation.

“Christiana is an outstanding student, athlete and community member, and Central Electric is pleased to offer students like her the opportunity to experience life on a college campus and to represent our

co-op at camp,” said Janet Jackson, energy use and information specialist at Central Electric Membership Corporation.

Scholarship winners were selected by a panel of judges who reviewed an application that included academics, extracurricular activities and an essay. At camp, athletes stayed in dorms and worked directly with coach Moore, his coaching staff, and Wolfpack women’s basketball players on fundamental skills that will help the campers excel on and off the court.

This is the tenth year that North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives, including Central EMC, have sponsored young women to attend basketball camp at N.C. State. North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives have also provided scholarships for young men to attend basketball camp at UNC with coach Roy Williams in Chapel Hill for the past eight years. More than 50 students statewide won scholarships to attend basketball camps on the two college campuses this summer.
