Cavaliers slug for 16-5 win

Southern Lee 16, Jack Britt 5

Southern Lee scored a mercy-rule win in five innings for its fourth straight win at home Thursday night against the Buccaneers (2-2).

Cullen Boyette went 3-for-4 and drove in five RBI to lead the Cavalier slugging. Ethan Helsman went 2-for-2 with a triple, four RBI and three runs. Freddy McCollum scored three runs while notching a double and a sacrifice fly.

Connor Gaines pitched a complete game for the win, allowing two earned runs. At the plate, Gaines added a three runs, two RBI and a triple.

The Cavaliers (4-1, 1-0) hosted Westover last night and will play another Cape Fear Valley game Tuesday at Union Pines at 7 p.m.

Grace Christian 11, Burlington Christian 1

The Crusaders (1-1) made their first win of the season a five-inning victory at Burlington Christian (1-2) on Thursday. The Crusaders scored in each inning after the first against the Royals.

Micah Welborn went 3-for-4 with a double while Caleb Welborn, Aaron Ayers, Shane Farnsworth and Sam Holt had two hits each for Grace.

Montgomery Kirby allowed two hits and struck out six in a complete-game win on the mound.

Grace Christian played Wayne Country Day yesterday and will host Pilot Mills Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Northwood 19, Carrboro 0

The Chargers (4-1, 2-0) cruised to a Carolina 12 win in five innings Thursday night. Northwood played Roxboro Community last night and is slated to visit River Mill Academy Tuesday at 5 p.m.

West Montgomery 4, North Moore 3

West Montgomery (5-0, 3-0) tied the Mustangs with a run in the fourth frame, then got a single run to take the lead for good in the fifth, for a Yadkin Valley win in Robbins Thursday night.

The Mustangs (3-2, 3-1) played North Stanly last night and will host East Montgomery Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Triton 12, Cape Fear Christian 0

Triton scored six runs in the second and six in the third to beat visiting Cape Fear Christian in five innings Thursday.

Brett McLamb went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI for the Hawks. Houston Hamilton and Matthew Webb had two RBI each. Webb pitched four inning and allowed one hit to get the win.

Cape Fear Christian (1-2) will host Community Christian Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Triton (5-2, 1-2) will host Cleveland Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Fayetteville Academy 17, O'Neal 3

O'Neal took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first only for Fayetteville Academy (2-3, 1-0) to plate the next 10 runs for a 10-1 lead through three frames in Fayetteville Thursday.

Pait Bryan led the Falcons going 2-for-3 with a run. O'Neal (0-3, 0-1) will host Berean Baptist on March 29.


Lee County 9, Cary 8

After topping Southern Lee Wednesday night, the Lady Yellow Jackets got their first Tri-Nine win of the season at Cary (1-5, 1-4) Thursday night.

The Lady Jackets (2-2, 1-2) played Panther Creek last night and will go to Union Pines Monday for a 6:30 p.m. start.

Triton 10, Harnett Central 0

Triton (6-1, 2-1) rolled to a six-inning win over visiting Harnett Central (1-2) Thursday night.

Kayla Baker pitched a complete game. Kaitlin Ennis had a double, a triple and six RBI for the Lady Hawks and Erica Ocenna scored four runs.

Harnett Central played Southeast Raleigh last night and will play at Fuquay-Varina Monday at 6:30 p.m. Triton will host Cleveland Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Girls soccer

Burlington Christian 2, Grace Christian 1

Madison Bolen's eighth goal of the season gave the Lady Crusaders a 1-1 tie in the 70th minute at Burlington Christian Thursday afternoon, but the Lady Royals (3-1) got the game-winning goal from Amanda Barrett.

Burlington Christian, ranked in the NCISAA 2A state poll, had a 1-0 halftime lead.

Grace Christian (2-1) missed multiple breakaway chances during the second half said Crusader head coach Chris Pratt.

Sarah Beard made eight saves for the Lady Crusaders.

Grace, ranked No. 3 in NCISAA 1A, played Wayne Country Day yesterday and will host Fayetteville Home School Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Fuquay-Varina 6, Lee County 0

Fuquay-Varina (2-3-1, 2-3-1) topped the Lady Jackets in a Tri-Nine match at Lee County Thursday night.

The Lady Jackets (0-5, 0-4) will host Green Hope in a league match Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Vandalia Christian 2, Lee Christian 1

The Lady Falcons (0-3, 0-1) fell at Vandalia Christian Thursday afternoon for their second one-goal loss of the season. Lee Christian played Fayetteville Home School yesterday and will host Wayne Christian in a Carolina Christian Conference match Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Chatham Central 3, Albemarle 1

Lupita Gomez scored two Lady Bear goals and Anna Dixon scored a goal as Chatham Central beat visiting Albemarle for its first win of the season Thursday.

The Lady Bears (1-4, 1-4) will go to North Rowan Monday at 6:30 p.m. kick.

Gray Stone Day 4, North Moore 0

The Lady Knights (5-0) won a Yadkin Valley match at North Moore (0-3-1, 0-3-1) Thursday night. North Moore will host East Montgomery Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Fayetteville Academy 6, O'Neal 0

Fayetteville Academy (4-0, 1-0) beat visiting O'Neal (1-1-1, 0-1-0) in a Cape Fear Independent match on Thursday.

O'Neal's next match is set for April 2 at Union Pines.
