Trojans, Hawks win Harnett County rivalries

Harnett Central 16, Western Harnett 3
Harnett Central (1-1) bounced back from an opening 43-0 loss to Apex with a victory over the Eagles (0-2) in Angier Friday night. The Trojans piled up 358 rushing yards led by running back Thomas Staton carrying for 182 yards.
Kahlil Dixon's 31-yard touchdown run plus a successful two-point pass put the Trojans ahead 8-0 in the first quarter. The game stayed a one-possession margin until Trojan quarterback Jay McNeil went for a 55-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. McNeil carried 16 times for 120 yards.
Western Harnett ran for 164 yards but was held to no passing yards. Laron Gilchrist rushed seven times for 47 yards. Jae'pell Ortiz rushed for 40 yards and Deshaun Alston had 36 yards.
The Harnett County games continue this Friday with the Trojans visiting Triton and the Eagles playing at Overhills.

Triton 48, Overhills 32
The Hawks scored six touchdowns in the first half for a 41-12 halftime lead and went on to beat the visiting Jaguars Friday night.
Hawk quarterback Jeremy Leggett was 10-for-16 passing for 220 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. He connected on touchdown tosses with Deon Newkirk, Brandon Richardson, Deangelo Harris and Tyler Tyndall. Harris had 10 rushes for 27 yards and a touchdown along with catching two passes for 63 yards.
Triton's defense came up with four interceptions with defensive back Emmanuel Myles getting two of them. Tyndall, at linebacker, had a fumble recovery and blocked a punt. Senior linebacker Latrell White led the Hawks with nine tackles.
Triton (2-0) hosts Harnett Central this coming Friday night. Overhills (0-2) hosts Western Harnett Friday.

Union Pines 48, North Moore 6
After the Vikings and Mustangs traded touchdowns in the opening quarter, Union Pines (1-1) scored the last 41 points of the game to win in Robbins Friday night.
Kaleb Johnson's 7-yard touchdown run put the Vikings in front before the Mustangs called a running back pass, from Kirby Lambert to Nick Rush, for a 65-yard touchdown making it 7-6 Vikings.
Blake Lawrence's 7-yard touchdown run was the second Viking touchdown. Union Pines went on to total 315 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
Johnson had 10 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Paul Duncan had nine carries for 46 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Max Yates went 3-for-5 passing for 62 yards and a touchdown along with a 29-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Lambert was 2-for-2 passing for 92 yards and caught four passes for 36 yards.
Union Pines will play at Providence Grove on Friday. North Moore (0-2) will play at South Robeson.

Pinecrest 45, Douglas Byrd 28
The Patriots (2-0) jumped out to a huge lead in the first half for the second straight game, getting out to a 35-0 halftime lead, at Douglas Byrd (1-1) Friday night.
Sophomore quarterback Christian Ledbetter was 9-for-20 passing for 119 yards and two interceptions and he ran 23 times for 94 yards and three touchdowns.
Bradley Black threw to Cameron Brown for a 62-yard Patriot touchdown. Brown finished with four catches for 107 yards. Troy Roper carried 17 times for 82 yards.
Douglas Byrd cut the 35-0 margin down to 38-28, but the Patriots held on from there.
Pinecrest will play its third straight road game to start the season next Friday at Beddingfield.
