Lee County 11, Athens Drive 8

The Lady Yellow Jackets avenged a 10-9 loss to Athens Drive at home earlier this season with a victory in Raleigh Wednesday evening.

Morgan Pedley hit a three-run home run and Caroline Wilson had a double, a triple and three RBI. Savannah Patterson got the win in the circle.

Lee County (6-14, 4-11) hosts Holly Springs tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the last Tri-9 game for the Lady Jackets.

Gray’s Creek 17, Southern Lee 6

Gray’s Creek (15-6, 9-3) jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first two frames and finished the Cape Fear Valley season as the No. 3 seed with a win at Southern Lee (4-14, 3-9) Wednesday night.

Jennibeth Burge hit a home run for the Lady Cavaliers.

Hannah Godwin went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and four RBI for the Lady Bears.

Southern Lee, the No. 6 seed in the CFVC Tournament, played at No. 3 Gray’s Creek in the first round last night.


Union Pines 17, Westover 2

The Lady Vikings (15-3, 11-1) finished their CFVC season championship with an easy victory Wednesday night. Union Pines got a bye to Friday’s tournament semifinals. Western Harnett is hosting the semifinals and Monday night’s final.


Chatham Central 16, South Davidson 0Chatham Central 16, South Davidson 1

The Lady Bears (19-0, 16-0) completed an undefeated Yadkin Valley regular season and won in the first round of the YVC Tournament in a doubleheader against South Davidson in Bear Creek Wednesday. Chatham Central hosted West Montgomery in a YVC semifinal last night.


Northwood 19, Franklin Academy 0

The Lady Chargers (13-5, 10-3) had no problem in a Carolina 12 road game Wednesday evening, scoring 12 runs in the first inning in a rout. Northwood hosts Granville Central tonight at 6 p.m.


Eastern Randolph 9, Jordan-Matthews 3

After the Lady Jets won both regular season meetings, No. 3-seeded Eastern Randolph (11-12) defeated No. 2 Jordan-Matthews (12-7) in a Mid-State Conference Tournament semifinal Wednesday evening in Siler City.


Richmond 4, Pinecrest 3

Top-seeded Richmond (19-2) scored a run in the home half of the seventh to advance to the Southeastern Conference Tournament final Wednesday night.

Pinecrest (8-9) scored three runs in the sixth to make it 3-3.

BaseballChatham Central 8, North Rowan 0

No. 3-seeded Chatham Central (14-9) advanced with a shutout over No. 6 North Rowan (10-12) in the first round of the Yadkin Valley Conference Tournament Wednesday night in Bear Creek. Chatham Central plays No. 2 West Montgomery today at 4:30 p.m. at North Moore.

Zack Burke fired a three-hitter with 18 strikeouts and five walks for the Bears. Senior catcher Victor Stinson went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Chase Fuquay and Seth Elkins scored two runs each.


Jordan-Matthews 13, Eastern Randolph 4

After Eastern Randolph swept the Jets in the regular season, Jordan-Matthews (17-6) piled on the runs late to rout the Wildcats (12-8) in a semifinal of the Mid-State Conference Tournament Wednesday night at Graham.

Eastern Randolph led 4-1 in the fourth inning. After a single Jet tally in the home half of the fourth, the Jets scored four runs in the fifth to take the lead.

Justin Kidd went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and five RBI. Casey Golden hit a homer and had two RBI. Drew Hinshaw went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Ethan Cook went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Jordan-Matthews played Providence Grove in the tournament final last night.

Triton 11, North Lenoir 1

No. 2-seeded Triton (17-7) rolled to its third win of the season over No. 7 North Lenoir in the first round of the Eastern Carolina Conference Tournament Wednesday night.

Triton broke open a 1-1 score with nine runs in the bottom of the third. Matthew Webb pitched a five-inning complete game allowing three hits and no earned runs. Todd Penny went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. Taylor Emory went 2-for-2 with two RBI.


Richmond 2, Pinecrest 1

No. 1 Richmond (22-1) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to advance past No. 4 Pinecrest (15-10) in a Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinal Wednesday night.


West Johnston 10, Harnett Central 0

West Johnston (12-9, 8-4) got a regular-season split against the visiting Trojans (13-7, 7-5) Wednesday night. Harnett Central hosts Knightdale tonight at 7 p.m.

Girls soccerSouthern Lee 2, Gray’s Creek 1 - OT

Southern Lee avenged a 5-3 overtime loss to Gray’s Creek back on April 8 with an overtime victory at Gray’s Creek Wednesday night.

Kasslynn Ansted and Alondra Aveldanez scored a goal each for the Lady Cavs. Whitney Schultz and Jalicia Addington had an assist apiece.

Southern Lee (9-6-1, 7-4-0) played Overhills last night and plays at Lee County in its regular-season finale tonight at 6:30 p.m.


Holly Springs 6, Lee County 0

Holly Springs (12-5-2, 9-5-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead by halftime and beat the visiting Lady Yellow Jackets (0-18, 0-16) Wednesday evening in Lee County’s last match as a Tri-Nine member.

Lee County hosts Southern Lee tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Lee Christian 3, Wayne Christian 2

Whitney O’Quinn scored the go-ahead goal in the 62nd minute to give Lee Christian (7-7) a victory over visiting Wayne Christian in a quarterfinal of the Carolina Christian Conference Tournament on Tuesday.

After Wayne Christian took a 1-0 lead in the third minute, the Lady Falcons tied the match in the 11th minute when Makaila Gillum scored on a direct free kick from about 30 yards away.

Seven minutes after halftime, Gillum scored her second goal of the match from a Cameron Dubuc assist. Wayne Christian made it 2-2 with a goal in the 56th minute.

O’Quinn scored an unassisted goal, giving her 33 goals for the season, putting Lee Christian ahead 3-2.

Lee Christian, the No. 4 seed in the CCC, played No. 1 Trinity Academy of Raleigh Thursday afternoon in a semifinal in Goldsboro.

Union Pines 9, Westover 0

The Lady Vikings (16-1-2, 11-0-1) finished an undefeated CFVC season and the season title with a victory at home Wednesday night.

Union Pines hosted Jordan-Matthews last night. The NCHSAA State Tournament is slated to start on Wednesday.


Garner 6, Harnett Central 0

Garner (9-9-1, 9-4-1) beat the visiting Lady Trojans (8-9, 5-9) in a Greater Neuse River match Wednesday night. Harnett Central finishes fifth in the GNRC.


Northwood 9, Granville Central 0

Northwood (8-7-1, 7-4-0) rolled to a Carolina 12 win over Granville Central (1-17-1) in Pittsboro Wednesday night.


Cleveland 7, Triton 0

No. 1-seeded Cleveland (17-1) blanked No. 4 Triton (9-10) in an Eastern Carolina semifinal match Wednesday night.


North Moore 2, Chatham Central 0

The Lady Mustangs (3-12-1) completed a season sweep of the Lady Bears (7-9-2, 7-8-1) in a YVC match Wednesday night.


Reidsville 1, Jordan-Matthews 0

Reidsville (14-6, 10-1) edged the visiting Lady Jets (9-6-2, 7-3-1) in a Mid-State match Wednesday night. Jordan-Matthews played at Union Pines last night.


Overhills 16, Douglas Byrd 0

The Lady Jaguars (11-5-3, 8-2-1) won at home Wednesday night, moving into second in the Cape Fear Valley standings. Overhills played at Southern Lee last night.
