The Vikings had their season come to a close in the quarterfinals of the NCHSAA 3A Dual Team State Tournament Monday afternoon in Cameron. Union Pines finishes the season with a 17-1 team mark.

Cardinal Gibbons (24-0) boasted the newly-crowned state 3A singles champion, Kelly, and the new state doubles champs, Galush and Constantine.

"The match pitted skilled athletes on both sides of the net. The rallies were long and intense, the placements sharp and the spin varied," said Union Pines head coach John Frye.

Dangerfield, a four-time Cape Fear Valley Conference singles champ, played his last match as a Viking. He's the second Viking to win four conference championships.

Dangerfield won 39 matches this season to have a 149-22 career record, making him eighth all-time on UP's wins list. Howard won 34 matches this season and finishes 129-14 (15th in career wins at UP). Lorenz won 31 matches this season and finishes 91-14 (42nd).
