Lady Falcons place second at CFIC track meet
O’Neal’s ladies track and field team finished runner-up at the inaugural Cape Fear Independent Conference Championships on Thursday at Reid Ross Classical School.
The Lady Falcons scored 142 points to finish second behind Fayetteville Academy which won with 211 points.
The Falcons finished fourth of four squads with 31 points. Fayetteville Christian won the boys’ title with 250 points.
Two Lady Falcon relay teams won conference titles. In the 4x100 relay, Katherine Wooddell, Lauren Dailey, Megan Bloom and Rebecca Wooddell won in 56.41 seconds, which was also second place in the O’Neal record books.
Tyra Marsh, Savannah Merritt, Dailey and Rebecca Wooddell won the 4x400 relay in 4:38.01, which is also second in O’Neal program history.
Merritt won the 3,200 meters in 14:06 and Courtney Morrison came in third in 15:24. Merritt had second-place finishes in the 800 (2:48.48) and 1,600 (6:11).
Aleksandra Majka finished second in the 100-meter hurdles, in 17.59 seconds, and second in the 300 hurdles, in 55.08. Majka also took second in the discus with a mark of 84-feet-3. In the boys’ discus, Stephen Stewart placed third at 104-0.
Katherine Wooddell, Bloom, Marsh and Veronika Russell teamed to take second in the 4x200 in 2:13.59.
In the 100-meter dash, Rebecca Wooddell ran second in 13.96 seconds and Lauren Dailey was third in 14.13. The same Lady Falcons did the same in the 200, with Wooddell running second in 28.55 and Dailey third in 28.84. In the shot put, Darby Linn placed third with a mark of 22-feet-11.
