Swansboro ends Lady Viking state run

No. 5-seeded Swansboro (19-4) defeated No. 4 Union Pines (22-3-3) 3-0 in the third round of the NCHSAA 3A state girls soccer tournament Wednesday night.

The Lady Pirates got a goal apiece by Katie Causey, Kimmie Moore and Kacie Seely. Swansboro led 2-0 at halftime and wound up with a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal for the match.

Union Pines was the Cape Fear Valley Conference Tournament champion and season co-champion along with Terry Sanford. The Lady Vikings defeated Rockingham County, 3-2, and Hunt, 2-1, both in Cameron in the first two rounds of the state tournament and was 11-0-2 in their previous 13 matches.

Swansboro advances to host Chapel Hill in a quarterfinal match.
