Lady Crusaders rally for win
Grace Christian 46, Hickory Christian 44
Lady Crusader senior Brooke Strickland made a driving lay-up with 0:17 remaining for the go-ahead hoop capping a big Grace Christian rally in a non-conference contest against visiting Hickory Christian Monday night.
Grace Christian (23-3) trailed by 15 with 2:47 left in the third quarter and won the fourth quarter 23-9. Freshman guard Alexis Ross made two three-pointers during the comeback. Anna Murr scored 10 of her 14 points in the fourth period. Strickland led the Lady Crusaders with 18 points.
Cassidy Burrell led Hickory with 18 points and Kristen Robinson added 11 points.
Grace Christian played Wayne Christian last night and will host St. Thomas More Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Union Pines 59, Douglas Byrd 42
Freshman forward Stephanie Johnson led the Lady Vikings with 16 points, nine rebounds and three assists as Union Pines beat visiting Douglas Byrd (2-14, 1-7) in a Cape Fear Valley game Monday.
Union Pines (9-11, 5-4) pulled away after leading 23-19 at halftime.
Lexie Coxe had 11 points and six steals. Tiffany Hicks had nine points, eight boards, four assists and three steals.
The Lady Vikings played at Southern Lee last night and will host Western Harnett Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Overhills 77, South Johnston 39
The Lady Jaguars (14-5, 9-0) won their eighth straight game and swept South Johnston for the season Monday evening.
Senior guard Katelyn Clark had 22 points and three assists for the Jags. Ge’Naisha Robinson had 20 points, eight rebounds and six steals. KeKe Robinson had 15 points, on 5-of-7 three-point shooting, and five rebounds.
Overhills, holding first place in the Cape Fear Valley by one game with three games to play, goes to Gray’s Creek Friday for a 6 p.m. start.
Village Christian 53, O’Neal 35
Village Christian (15-10, 4-4) beat the visiting Lady Falcons in a Cape Fear Independent Conference game Monday night. O’Neal (3-17, 2-6) played at Fayetteville Academy last night and will host Village Christian for its regular-season finale Friday at 6 p.m.
Hickory Christian 74, Grace Christian 56
The visiting Knights rolled to a win at Grace Christian in a non-league game Monday night.
The Crusaders (17-9) played Wayne Christian last night and will host St. Thomas More in their regular-season finale Friday at 7 p.m.
Douglas Byrd 62, Union Pines 40
Douglas Byrd (7-12, 4-4) led 37-29 going to the fourth period and put the game out of reach from there in a Cape Fear Valley game in Cameron Monday night.
Senior guard Matthew Maness led the Vikings with 14 points and Mike Quick added 10 points.
The Vikings (4-17, 0-9) played Southern Lee last night and will host Western Harnett Friday at 8 p.m.
Overhills 73, South Johnston 62
The Jaguars (13-6, 7-2) beat visiting South Johnston, getting a sweep for the season and their fifth straight win, Monday night. Overhills will play at Gray’s Creek Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Village Christian 74, O’Neal 57
Village Christian topped the visiting Falcons in a Cape Fear Independent game Monday night.
Adrian Rich led the Knights with 18 points.
Jacob Talbert and Jack Johnston led the Falcons with 15 points each. Luke Elliott scored 13 points.
O’Neal (9-12, 4-4) played Fayetteville Academy last night and will host Village Christian Friday at 7:30 p.m.
