Area scores: Lady Jackets rally from 6 down to beat Union Pines

Lee County 13, Union Pines 12

Following a nine-run Viking rally, Lee County scored the last seven runs of the game, six in the home half of the sixth and one when Zizi Hammonds drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh, for a Cape Fear Valley Conference victory at home Thursday night.

Union Pines (4-1, 2-1) scored nine runs in the sixth for a 12-6 lead. The Lady Jackets (3-2, 2-1) answered with six runs. Tessa Wilson's two-run single tied the game, 12-12.

Lee County edged Union Pines 3-1 in the JV game.

Lee County will play a CFVC game at Terry Sanford at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Union Pines played Southern Lee last night and will play at Douglas Byrd at 7 p.m. Tuesday.


North Moore 6, East Montgomery 3

The Lady Mustangs (4-0, 3-0) remained perfect on the season with a Yadkin Valley win at East Montgomery (4-3) Thursday afternoon. North Moore played South Davidson last night and the Lady Mustangs will host Jordan-Matthews at 6 p.m. Tuesday.


Princeton 7, Triton 5

Princeton (3-2) topped visiting Triton (3-3) in a non-conference game Thursday night.

Emma Thomas had a home run and two RBI for the Lady Hawks. Kasey Matthews and Savannah Dunn had two hits apiece.

The Lady Hawks will host South Johnston to open Two Rivers Conference play at 7 p.m. Tuesday.



Pinecrest 5, Southern Lee 2

The Patriots (6-1) completed a season sweep of the Cavaliers (5-2, 3-0 CFVC) Thursday evening in Southern Pines.

Pinecrest played at Lumberton last night and will go to Scotland for conference game at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Southern Lee faced Union Pines last night and will play at Western Harnett at 7 p.m. Monday.


Jordan-Matthews 6, Northwood 4

The Jets rallied from an early 4-0 hole to top county-rival Northwood Thursday night in Pittsboro.

The Chargers (3-3, 1-0 Big Eight) led 4-0 through two innings. The Jets (4-2, 1-0 Mid-State) chipped away until taking a 5-4 lead with two runs in the fifth.

Caleb Nixon had a solo home run and three RBI for the Jets.

Jordan-Matthews played at Riverside last night and will host Graham at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Northwood played Graham last night and will host Cedar Ridge at 6:30 p.m. Monday.


Girls soccer

Southern Lee 5, Harnett Central 4

The Lady Cavaliers (5-1, 3-0 CFVC) jumped out to a 4-1 halftime lead and held on to defeat visiting Harnett Central (2-3, 1-1 Greater Neuse River) Thursday night.

Southern Lee played at Union Pines last night and will host Terry Sanford at 7 p.m. Monday. Harnett Central played Knightdale last night and will host Rolesville at 6 p.m. Monday.


Northwood 3, Union Pines 2

Northwood (3-1) edged the Lady Vikings (3-1-1, 3-0-0 CFVC) in a non-league match Thursday night in Cameron.

Northwood will open Big Eight Conference play hosting Chapel Hill at 6:45 p.m. Monday. Union Pines played Southern Lee last night and will host Gray's Creek at 7 p.m. Monday.


Jordan-Matthews 5, Graham 0

The Lady Jets (2-3-1, 1-0-0) blanked Graham for an opening victory in Mid-State Conference play Thursday night. Jordan-Matthews will host Chatham Central at 6 p.m. Monday.

The Mid-State schools played a nine-hole match at Chapel Ridge Golf Course on Thursday. Carrboro's Kaleb Lester shot a one-over-par 37 to be medalist.
