North Moore playing for state soccer title today

Four championships will be decided Saturday in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s state men’s soccer championships at N.C. State's Dail Soccer Field.

North Moore (20-3-1), the West Region champion, with face East champion Wallace-Rose Hill (22-3) in the 1A state championship match at 11:05 a.m. The 1A final will be followed by the 3A game at 2:05 p.m., the 2A game at 5:05 p.m. and the 4A game at 8:05 p.m.

The 1A final matches two teams making their initial appearances in an NCHSAA soccer championship.

All-state players Erik Patino and Carlos Gomez lead Wallace-Rose Hill and Menor Espinoza is the team’s leading scorer with 37 goals. North Moore has outscored its opposition 22-1 in the playoffs, with junior Pedro Ugarte and sophomore Iban Catalan leading the offensive attack. The Mustangs won 2-1 in overtime at Thomas Jefferson to win the regional title on Tuesday.

Tickets will be $8 at the gate. All four games will be televised by Time Warner Cable and will be available on Local on Demand, digital channel 199 on Time Warner systems across the state.
