Area scores: Gray's Creek beats Cavs, Terry Sanford takes up CFVC baseball lead

Gray's Creek 3, Southern Lee 1 - 8 innings
Gray's Creek (7-7, 5-4) won with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth earning a regular-season split with the Cavaliers (11-5, 6-2) Thursday night in Hope Mills.
Christian Wenger pitched a complete game for the Cavs allowing five hits and getting five strikeouts.
Marcos Collazo drove in Maxx Taylor giving the Cavs a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. The Bears tied it in the bottom of the sixth.
Southern Lee, second in the Cape Fear Valley standings a half-game behind Terry Sanford through Thursday night's games, played at Westover last night and will be a co-host of the Chatee Easter Invitational beginning Thursday afternoon.

Terry Sanford 5, Union Pines 0
Terry Sanford (9-5, 6-1) blanked the visiting Vikings (9-6, 6-3), holding them to four hits, to win a Cape Fear Valley game and move into first place in the league Thursday night.
Emmitt Carden went 2 for 3 with a double for the Vikings.
Union Pines stands third in the CFVC, as of Thursday night, a game ahead of Gray's Creek and Lee County (6-8, 5-4).

Ravenscroft 6, Grace Christian 4
Ravenscroft (5-8) edged ahead with a run in the fourth inning and held on versus the visiting Crusaders Thursday night in Raleigh.
The Crusaders (8-7, 4-1 Carolina Christian) fell behind early but plated three runs in the third for a 4-4 tie.
Grace Christian played a CCC game versus Northwood Temple yesterday. The Crusaders will be in the Chatlee Easter Invitational starting with a game versus Union Pines at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Voyager Academy 9, Northwood 7
The Chargers bolted out on top with five runs in the bottom of the first only for Voyager Academy (7-2, 3-0 1A North Central) to score six runs for a 6-5 lead in the third.
Northwood played a Big Eight game at J.F. Webb last night.

North Moore 9, Jordan-Matthews 8
North Moore (7-6, 5-3 Yadkin Valley) broke up the Jets' nine-game winning streak in a non-league game in Robbins Thursday night.
The Mustangs played at East Montgomery last night and will host South Davidson at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Jordan-Matthews (11-3, 5-0 Mid-State) played Bartlett Yancey last night and will host Cummings at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Pinecrest 3, Lumberton 0
Tristan Helms (5-0) fired a complete game five-hitter leading the Patriots (12-3, 5-2) to an important Southeastern Conference win in Southern Pines Thursday night.
Pinecrest took the lead with a pair of runs in the third. Helms got seven strikeouts and walked two Pirates (9-6, 4-2).
Pinecrest moves into second in the SEC standings. The Patriots will play Rocky Mount in the Golden Leaf Invitational at Flemming Stadium in Wilson at 5 p.m. Monday.

South Johnston 5, Triton 3
South Johnston (9-4, 5-1) handed the Hawks (9-3, 5-1) their first Two Rivers loss Thursday night. South Johnston answered a Hawk run tying the game in the top of the seventh to win in the bottom half.
Triton will play in a spring break tournament at South Johnston Monday and Tuesday.

Seventy-First 9, Overhills 0
Seventy-First blanked the Jaguars (1-12, 1-9) in a Mid-South Athletic game Thursday night. Overhills will be in the Chatlee Easter Invitational beginning Thursday.

Softball
Gray's Creek 19, Southern Lee 0
Gray's Creek (14-1, 9-0) blanked the Lady Cavaliers in a CFVC game in Hope Mills Thursday night. Southern Lee (2-12, 2-6) played at Westover last night. Following a break for spring break, the Lady Cavaliers will play at Triton on April 22.

West Montgomery 3, Chatham Central 2
West Montgomery (8-4, 8-1) took a 3-1 lead in the first inning and that was enough versus visiting Chatham Central (5-7, 4-6) Thursday in a Yadkin Valley game.
The Lady Bears will play a YVC game at East Montgomery at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Pinecrest 12, Lumberton 2
The Lady Patriots (9-4, 4-3) rolled to a Southeastern Conference win at home Thursday night over Lumberton (3-10, 2-4).
Madison Thum went 2 for 3 with a double a run and two RBI for the Lady Pats while Carmen Love went 2 for 3 with two RBI and Jordan Blake went 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI.

Overhills 12, Seventy-First 0
The Lady Jaguars (5-8, 4-6) routed Seventy-First in a Mid-South Athletic game in Fayetteville Thursday night.

Clayton 9, Harnett Central 6
The Lady Comets (9-4, 6-2) won a Greater Neuse River game at Harnett Central (6-5, 4-4) Thursday.
Brittany Clark went 4 for 4 with a run for the Lady Trojans and Natalie Stewart had two hits and two RBI.

Girls soccer
Union Pines 9, Douglas Byrd 0
The Lady Vikings (11-2-2, 9-1-0) made it three conference victories in three straight nights Thursday night in Cameron. Union Pines is off until April 23 and a match at Southwestern Randolph.

Grace Christian 1, O'Neal 0
Madison Bolen, from Charity Taylor's assist, scored the lone goal of the match as the Lady Crusaders (11-1, 5-0 Carolina Christian) edged O'Neal (1-4-1, 1-3-0 Cape Fear Independent) in Southern Pines Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Crusaders played Northwood Temple yesterday. The Lady Falcons played at Harrells Christian yesterday and will host St. David's at 4 p.m. Monday.

Triton 9, South Johnston 0
Triton (9-4-1, 4-2-0) scored five goals in the first half and went on to an easy Two Rivers win at South Johnston Thursday.
Sophomore Morgan Goff scored four goals and made four assists for the Lady Hawks. Paige Glover and Emily Neville had two goals each. Gabriela Rosado scored one goal.

Overhills 2, Seventy-First 0
Overhills (4-8, 4-5) completed a regular-season sweep over Seventy-First Thursday night. The Lady Jaguars will host Pine Forest at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Garner 2, Harnett Central 0
Garner topped visiting Harnett Central (4-8-1, 2-5-1) in a Greater Neuse River match Thursday night.

Cardinal Gibbons 3, Northwood 0
Cardinal Gibbons (10-0-2, 5-0-0) completed a regular-season sweep of the Lady Chargers in Pittsboro Thursday evening.
Northwood (6-5, 3-3) will continue Big Eight play at Chapel Hill at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.
