Area scores: Jackets make it 2 for 2 in Asheboro tourney

Lee County 10, Southwestern Randolph 7
The Yellow Jackets (8-9, 5-5 Cape Fear Valley) went to 2-0 in the eighth annual Asheboro Copperheads Classic topping Southwestern Randolph (6-7) Wednesday at McCrary Park.
Postponements due to rain caused the tournament to be extended to at least today and possibly Saturday. Lee County's game versus Asheboro was postponed on Tuesday.
Following the Asheboro tourney, the Yellow Jackets will host Grimsley at 7 p.m. Wednesday. It will be Lee County's Senior Night.

 

Jordan-Matthews 7, West Montgomery 5 - 9 innings
The Jets (12-4, 5-1 Mid-State) tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh, then won it in the ninth at West Montgomery (7-10) in non-conference play Wednesday night.
The Jets held the Warriors scoreless through the last four innings while rallying.
Jordan-Matthews will play at Uwharrie Charter at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Chatham Central 4, Southern Alamance 3
The Bears needed only two hits to edge Southern Alamance (9-9) in the first round of the Graham Invitational Wednesday.
Zack Burke pitched the first five innings to get the win. He allowed five hits and three runs while throwing eight strikeouts. Chase Fuquay relieved for the last two innings allowing no hits, no runs and one walk while striking out three.
Brandon Beal led the Bears at the plate going 1 for 2 with a double and two runs.
Southern Alamance scored all its runs in the fifth, making the Bear lead 4-3.
Chatham Central (6-7, 4-5 Yadkin Valley) meets Western Alamance at Graham at 4 p.m. today.

 

Pinecrest 10, Ragsdale 3
The Patriots (15-3, 5-2 Southeastern) won the inaugural Golden Leaf Invitational at Wilson's Flemming Stadium on Wednesday, completing a 3-0 run through the tourney vs. Ragsdale (11-4).
Pinecrest, with an eight-game winning streak in all, will play at Union Pines at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Girls soccer
Carolina Friends 1, O'Neal 0
Carolina Friends (5-4-1) defeated the visiting Lady Falcons Wednesday afternoon in Durham. O'Neal (1-7-1, 1-4-0 Cape Fear Independent) played Cape Fear Academy yesterday and will host Caldwell Academy at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.
