Lady Jets pitch shutout in second half

Girls basketball

Jordan-Matthews 55, Bartlett Yancey 13

The Lady Jets (16-1, 5-1) led 28-13 at halftime before blanking Bartlett Yancey (4-13, 0-7) the rest of the way in a Mid-State Conference game Thursday night.

Senior center Erin Bristow led Jordan-Matthews with 17 points.

The Lady Jets will visit county rival Northwood this evening for a 6 p.m. tip.


Northwood 40, Cedar Ridge 26

The Lady Chargers (13-3, 9-0) stayed perfect in Carolina 12 play winning at Cedar Ridge (10-8, 7-3) Thursday evening.

Sophomore guard Shontai Totten led the Lady Chargers with 21 points. Jasmine Atkins added six points. Northwood got out to a 14-5 lead by the end of the first period.

The Lady Chargers sweep Cedar Ridge and have a seven-game winning streak heading into hosting Jordan-Matthews tonight at 6 p.m.


Harnett Central 54, Smithfield-Selma 35

Harnett Central jumped out to a 17-7 lead through one quarter and won a Greater Neuse River game in Smithfield Thursday night.

Maya Banks led the Lady Trojans with 19 points and DeAnneisha Jackson scored 18 points.

Harnett Central (13-2, 5-2) has won four straight games and will host Clayton in a GNRC game Tuesday at 6 p.m.


Pinecrest 57, Scotland 47

Pinecrest (9-6, 2-1) trailed until winning the last quarter 24-10 to get a key Southeastern Conference win at home over Scotland (11-3, 2-1) Thursday night.

Senior center Janea Williams poured in 34 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Williams made 14-of-17 field goals and 6-of-8 free throws. Brianna Alston had eight points and Jasmine Chalmers had seven points for the Lady Patriots.

Pinecrest will play a conference game at Richmond Monday at 6 p.m.


Boys basketball

Jordan-Matthews 55, Bartlett Yancey 46

Jordan-Matthews (15-2, 4-2) completed a season sweep over Mid-State foe Bartlett Yancey Thursday night.

Bryson Bittle led the Jets with 14 points. Casey Golden added 12 points.

Jordan-Matthews will play at Northwood tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Northwood 64, Cedar Ridge 54

Northwood rallied from trailing 44-39 entering the fourth quarter to win a Carolina 12 game at Cedar Ridge (6-11, 6-3) Thursday night.

Kadarus Rone led the Chargers (10-6, 7-2) with 17 points. Aumad Walker and Ti Pinnix scored 16 points each. The game was knotted, 27-27, at the half.

Northwood will host Jordan-Matthews tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Harnett Central 53, Smithfield-Selma 51

The Trojans (7-8, 3-4) pulled out a conference win at Smithfield-Selma (7-9, 1-6) Thursday night.

Hunter Baker led the Trojans with 14 points and Anthony Staton had 10 points. Smithfield-Selma led 34-33 through three quarters.

Harnett Central will host Clayton Tuesday at 8 p.m.

North Moore 61, Chatham Central 60

The Mustangs (9-8, 6-4) edged the host Bears (3-11, 2-7) in their first meeting of the season in Bear Creek Thursday night.

North Moore continues in Yadkin Valley play with a date at Albemarle Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Chatham Central travels to West Montgomery Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
