Jackets fall vs. Apex, defeat Fuquay to open tennis season
Jordan-Matthews 6, Southwestern Randolph 1
Sophomore Josh Hudson allowed one run and one hit and struck out 10 in 6.1 innings on the mound as the Jets (1-0) won at home on their opening day.
Jordan-Matthews scored four runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead. Justin Kidd went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Trey Lineberry and Casey Golden each had two hits and one RBI.
The Jets play at Hillside Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Triton 8, Western Harnett 2
In the opener for the Hawks and Eagles in Lillington, Western Harnett scored twice in the first inning and led until a five-run Triton fifth made it 6-2 Hawks.
Dillon Stewart hit a home run for Triton and Todd Penny went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. Brett McLamb got the win.
Western Harnett (0-1) played at Purnell Swett last night and will host Harnett Central on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Triton (1-0) played at Overhills last night and will host C.B. Aycock Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Triton 7, Western Harnett 3
Triton (1-0) opened up with a win a Western Harnett (0-1) Thursday night. Kasey Matthews went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and an RBI for the Lady Hawks. Kayla Baker and Jordan Jackson had two RBI each. Baker went the complete game in the circle.
Western Harnett played at Purnell Swett last night and will host Harnett Central Wednesday at 7 p.m. Triton played Overhills last night and will host C.B. Aycock Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Lee County 5, Fuquay-Varina 4
Ryan Babcock, John Nguyen and Phillip Morie won their singles matches for the Yellow Jackets and the teams of Babock and Michael Soule and Nguyen and Morie won in doubles for a Lee County (1-1, 1-1) win on Thursday at Fuquay-Varina.

The Lady Vikings went on the road to open their season and raced out to a 3-0 halftime lead. The Lady Vikings (1-0) travel to play Scotland Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Last season, Union Pines went 16-4-1 overall, won the Cape Fear Valley Conference and reached the second round of the state tournament.

Triton (1-0) won at county rival Western Harnett (0-1) in both sides’ openers Thursday night. Western Harnett opens Cape Fear Valley play at Overhills Monday at 6 p.m. Triton will host Harnett Central Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Pinecrest 0, Leesville Road 0
The Lady Patriots drew at Leesville Road to open their season Thursday. Pinecrest (0-0-1) starts Southeastern Conference play at Richmond Monday at 7 p.m.
Carrboro 7, Jordan-Matthews 0
Carrboro beat the Lady Jets in Siler City Thursday night. Jordan-Matthews (0-1) will host Northwood Thursday at 6 p.m.
