Lee County 8, Providence Grove 2

The Yellow Jackets (7-9, 5-5 Cape Fear Valley) defeated Providence Grove (8-6) during the first night of the Asheboro Copperheads Easter Tournament at Asheboro's McCrary Park Monday.

Lee County, which went 2-1 in the same tournament last spring, played Asheboro last night and play Southwestern Randolph at 7:30 p.m. tonight at McCrary Park.

Pinecrest 10, Rocky Mount 2

The Patriots (13-3, 5-2 Southeastern) broke open a 3-2 game with seven runs in the top of the seventh to win on the first night of the Golden Leaf Invitational in Wilson. The tournament, being played at Flemming Stadium, continued last night and ends tonight.

West Johnston 18, Triton 8

The Hawks (10-4, 5-1 Two Rivers) defeated Clayton 12-7 on Saturday in the South Johnston Easter Tournament, but fell to a second Greater Neuse River opponent on Monday. The tournament at South Johnston concluded last night.

N.C. High School Invitational

at Treyburn C.C., Durham

Pinecrest, the defending 4A state champion, shot a team score of 302 to defeat Cannon School by a stroke and win the N.C. High School Invitational Monday.

Pinecrest's Josh Martin shot a one-under par 71 to win the medalist honor. Griffin Cryan, Krystian Romero and Josh Stockwell each shot 77 for the Patriots.


Girls soccer

St. David's 2, O'Neal 0

St. David's won a non-conference match in Southern Pines Monday afternoon. O'Neal (1-6-1, 1-3-0 Cape Fear Independent) plays at Carolina Friends at 4:30 p.m. today.
