Area scores: Patriots, Mustangs roll to baseball victories

Pinecrest 7, Corinth Holders 3

The Patriots (14-3, 5-2 Southeastern) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and led 7-0 after three innings on the way to defeating Corinth Holders (7-7, 4-2 Two Rivers) at the Golden Leaf Invitational in Wilson Tuesday.

Hunter Phillips pitched four innings for the victory, giving up no runs on two hits.

Joe Cirigliano went 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBI and Jay Thomas went 2 for 3 with a double, a run and an RBI.

 

North Moore 11, South Davidson 3

The Mustangs (10-5, 7-3) plated six runs in the third, taking a 7-0 lead, and went on to a Yadkin Valley victory versus the visiting Wildcats (2-13, 0-9).

Cameron Morrison got the win on the mound going four innings allowing a hit and a run and getting four strikeouts. Kirby Lambert pitched three innings.

At the plate, Morrison went 2 for 2 with a double, a triple, three runs and two RBI. Drake Matthews went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, a run and three RBI.

North Moore plays Southern Lee in the first round of the Chatlee Easter Invitational at 7 p.m. tonight at Southern Lee.

 

- Lee County at Asheboro postponed

Lee County's second game in the Asheboro Copperheads Easter Tournament was postponed due to weather Tuesday evening. The tournament is now slated to run Wednesday-Friday and possibly into Saturday at McCrary Park.

 

Softball

North Moore 4, South Davidson 0

The Lady Mustangs (11-1, 9-1) blanked South Davidson (6-8, 4-8), holding the Lady Wildcats to three hits, in a Yadkin Valley Conference game in Denton.

North Moore will host Union Pines on Wednesday.

 

Cape Fear Christian 3, Freedom Christian 2

Cape Fear Christian (9-1, 1-0 Carolina Christian) ran its winning streak to five and topped Freedom Christian for the second time this season on Monday. The Lady Eagles will play a CCC game at Lee Christian on April 24.
