O'Neal places fifth in state track meet
O'Neal's girls track and field team completed a successful season last weekend by finishing fifth in the state amongst 20 schools at the NCISAA 1A-2A State Championship at Cary Academy.
The Lady Falcon relay teams in the 4x100 meters, 4x200 and 4x400 led O'Neal to a team total of 47 points.
The 4x400 relay team of Tyra Marsh, Aleksandra Majka, Lauren Dailey and Rebecca Wooddell led through the first three legs and finished second after a hard-fought last lap with Westchester Country Day's final runner. The Lady Falcons set a new O'Neal School record of 4:26.99.
Megan Bloom, Dailey, Katherine Wooddell and Rebecca Wooddell finished third in the 4x100 in 54.8 seconds. Their time is second-best in Lady Falcon history. In the 4x200, Sara Carlson, Marsh, Katherine Wooddell and Bloom, the Lady Falcons took third in 2:05.1.
In individual events, Majka, a team captain, finished second in the state and improved her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.6 seconds. Majka also took third in the discus at 85-feet-4. Carlson, a fellow captain, finished 10th in the long jump with a mark of 13-10.5.
On the boys team, Stephen Stewart set a new O'Neal record for discus, with a throw of 111-4.5 on the last throw of his high school career.
