Lee County wins state all-star title
Lee County's 14U all-star softball team won the SWAC (Statewide Athletics Committee) state championship last Saturday-Sunday at the SWAC 14U State Tournament in Williamston.
Lee County battled back from dropping a one-run game to Richland in the previous game to defeat Richland 3-2 in the championship game for the state title.
The team was led by the pitching of sisters Braynka and Dayonia Brown and the hitting of Austin Varner and Kamryn Bivens. The Brown sisters pitched the entire tournament for the Lee County All-Stars with Dayonia pitching a complete game in the 3-2 win in the final.
Lee County won its first game 15-4 versus Bladen County. Next up, Lee County got past Wake Forest 4-3. Richland beat Lee County 4-3 before Lee County rebounded in the championship game.
The Lee County All-Stars are Austin Varner, Leanna Boggs, Braynka Brown, Dayonia Brown, Isabel Poole, Franki Berryman, Diamond Hancock, Lyndy Boogs, Morgan Birdsong, Kamryn Bivens and Dawson Martinez.
Lee County was an all-star team from the Lee County Parks and Recreation season. SWAC is a committee of recreation organizations throughout the state.
