Sports briefs: Tough Day golf tournament is Saturday at Sanford Golf Course

Sanford Municipal Golf Course will host its annual 2-Man Superball Tough Day Tournament on Saturday with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. All players will play the blue tees and will be flighted. Skins will be included in the cost of the event.

The tournament is open to all players. The cost is $45 for SMGA members and $55 for non-members.

 

Deep River Northview baseball, softball coming up

Registration for Deep River Northview Optimist Club’s spring baseball and softball seasons is underway. Players can sign up online through the drnvobaseball.com website or at the ballpark in the Field 1 concession building (the field nearest the highway) on the following dates:

Saturdays Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Fridays Feb. 7, 14 and 21 from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 23. After Feb. 23, anyone registering will be assessed a $20 late fee and may be placed on a waiting list.

Baseball leagues range from ages 5-15 and softball leagues go from 6-15. The registration fee is $45 for the 5-6 year-old machine pitch baseball league and $50 for all other leagues.

Each child will be required to purchase 15 $2 raffle tickets for fundraising for a cash drawing. Players will pre-buy the tickets and sell them to recover the money. This is being done in lieu of a Spring feed.

 

Broadway baseball and softball coming up

Broadway Optimist Club will be holding spring baseball and softball registrations now through March 16. Registration forms are available at Broadway Hardware, the Optimist Club’s Facebook page or at www.broadwayoptimistbaseball.com.

Sign-ups at the Broadway fields will be held March 14 from 6-9 p.m., March 15 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and March 16 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. The registration fee is $50. Players must have a copy of their birth certificate. Broadway Optimist Club offers leagues from age 3-17 for baseball and 8-17 for softball.

Junior team tennis registration is open

Lee County Parks and Recreation is taking registration for its spring Junior Team Tennis League now through March 20.

The league is for boys and girls ages 5-12. The registration fee is $10 for county residents and $25 for out-of-county residents.

Gymnastics sign-ups coming up

Lee County Parks and Recreation will hold registration for its spring gymnastics programs from 3-6 p.m. Feb. 27-28 at Lee County Gymnastics, located at 221 Commercial Court in Sanford.
