Pinecrest defeated Myers Park by one stroke, 19-20, on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to win the NCHSAA 4A state championship at Pinehurst No. 8 on Tuesday.

Southern Lee was in seventh place, led by Matthew Honeycutt shooting a 75, through the first round of the NCHSAA 3A State Championships Monday at Foxfire Golf and Country Club in Foxfire Village.
Overhills junior Kayla Mitchell won the state championship in the 100-meter hurdles and Western Harnett junior Mateius Brown won the state title in the discus at the NCHSAA 3A State Track and Field Championships at North Carolina A&T Saturday.

Triton rallied from a 6-0 hole, taking the lead in a sudden two-inning span, and advanced through the first round the NCHSAA 3A State baseball tournament with a 7-6 victory over Southern Lee Friday night.
Led by Zane Lewis carding a 75 and finishing third individually, Southern Lee's boys' golf team earned its way to the NCHSAA 3A State Tournament on Thursday by taking third place at the 3A Mideast Regional Tournament at Deep Springs Country Club.

Williams (17-2), the No. 2 seed from the 3A Mid-State Conference, topped visiting Southern Lee (9-8-1) in the first round of the NCHSAA 3A State Tournament Wednesday night in Burlington in a match called at halftime due to thunderstorms.
It might not be an official designation, such as National Signing Day each February, but Cavalier Signing Period continued on Wednesday in Southern Lee's library with the Cavs celebrating seniors five and six signing college athletic offers within the last two weeks.
Beating Southern Lee on the diamond for the second time in less than a week, Gray's Creek secured the Cape Fear Valley's No. 1 seed for the NCHSAA 3A State Tournament with a 3-1 win over the Cavaliers on Tuesday night at Western Harnett.

By any measure, whether as a Lady Cavalier, a travel ball player or simply starting out in the sport in rec leagues, when Southern Lee senior Madison Morrison officially accepted a scholarship with Guilford College on Friday afternoon in Southern Lee’s library, it was the end of a long road and the start of a great new one.
Union Pines and Western Harnett played their way into the Cape Fear Valley Conference baseball title game, which was also moved up 48 hours to Saturday evening, with victories, the No. 3-seeded Vikings beating No. 2 Southern Lee 6-3, then the No. 4 Eagles beating No. 1 Gray's Creek 10-9, on Friday night at Western Harnett.
First, the Lady Cavaliers rescued their senior night in dramatic fashion. Less than two minutes after Overhills scored to take a 3-2 lead, Southern Lee senior Alondra Aveldanez smashed a rebounded shot into an empty Overhills goal tying the match with 0:58 remaining.

The No. 2-seeded Cavaliers (20-5) rolled past No. 7 Westover (0-18) in the first round of the Cape Fear Valley Conference Tournament at Southern Lee Thursday night.
Southern Lee pitcher Caleb Gaster worked hard on the diamond for years to get to Thursday afternoon and signing a letter of intent to play baseball at the college level. Gaster accepted a scholarship offer from Surry Community College as family, coaches, teammates and friends joined him for the signing.
