Area scores: Imps rally in the 7th to edge Lee County

Baseball
Cary 4, Lee County 3
The Imps (1-1) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally and defeat visiting Lee County (0-2) Thursday evening.
Lee County led 3-0 through four frames before two Imp runs in the fifth and two in the seventh.
Hampton Thomas pitched 6.1 innings and struck out nine for the Yellow Jackets. Austin Bullock had two hits. Bo Wicker and Thomas knocked in an RBI apiece.
Lee County started a two-game series with Pinecrest last night. The Yellow Jackets will visit the Patriots at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Triton 10, Wallace-Rose Hill 1
Triton (2-0) broke the ice with five runs in the fourth, for a 5-1 lead, and continued on to rout visiting Wallace-Rose Hill (1-1) Thursday.
Houston Hamilton led the Hawk hitting with a single, a double, two runs and three RBI. Cole Matthews and Aaron Hedgepeth had two RBI each.
Triton played at Harnett Central last night and will host Cape Fear at 7 p.m. Monday.

 

Softball
Northwood 6, Eastern Randolph 3
In Northwood's season opener Thursday evening, the Lady Chargers tied the game with two runs in the fifth, then took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to win.
Sophomore Anna Jasper pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and two walks while getting four strikeouts.
Kayli Blankenship went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Ally McKee went 3 for 3 with a run. Payton Springle went 2 for 2 with two runs and an RBI and Jasper drove in two RBI. 
Northwood will host Cedar Ridge at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

Triton 15, Wallace-Rose Hill 1
The Lady Hawks (2-0) plated eight runs in the first inning and won via mercy rule Thursday night.
Emma Thomas went 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and four RBI. Lindsay Champion was 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI. Jordon Jackson went 3 for 3 and had three RBI. Erica Occena went 2 for 4 and scored three runs.
Triton played at Harnett Central last night and will host Cape Fear at 7 p.m. Monday.

 

Pinecrest 19, Red Springs 5
The Lady Patriots (2-0) made it 37 runs in two games to start the season winning at home Thursday evening.
Freshman Jordan Blake went 4 for 4 with a double, two runs and two RBI for the Lady Patriots. Madison Thum was 3 for 4 with three runs and two RBI. Bobbie McDaniel added two hits and three RBI.
Pinecrest will host North Moore at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Girls soccer
Northwood 3, Southern Lee 1
The Lady Chargers (1-0) won at Southern Lee (0-1) in the opening match for both schools Thursday night.
Yusimar Arista scored the Lady Cavalier goal with an assist by Yesi Mondragon. Nnaemeka McLean made 16 saves in goal.
Southern Lee will host Westover for a Cape Fear Valley Conference match at 7 p.m. Monday.
Northwood will play at East Chapel Hill at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.

 

Pinecrest 1, Jack Britt 0
The Lady Patriots opened their season with a win over fellow 4A power Jack Britt (0-1) Thursday night in Southern Pines.
Pinecrest was 16-3-3 overall and the undefeated champ of the Southeastern Conference last season. Jack Britt was 18-4-2 and undefeated in winning the Mid-South Conference title. The Lady Patriots reached the third round of the state tournament last year.
Pinecrest will play at Southeast Guilford at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Eastern Randolph 5, Jordan-Matthews 1
Eastern Randolph cruised past the Lady Jets (0-1) in their season opener in Siler City Thursday. Jordan-Matthews will play at Chatham Central at 6 p.m. Monday.

 

North Moore 2, Providence Grove 2
North Moore (0-0-1) opened its season drawing in a non-conference match Thursday in Robbins. The Lady Mustangs will visit Providence Grove on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
