Area scores: Cavaliers take two at Westover

Boys basketball
Southern Lee 61, Westover 56
The Cavaliers (13-7, 7-3) claimed a regular-season sweep over Westover (14-7, 7-3), moving into third place in the Cape Fear Valley Conference, Friday night in Fayetteville.
Forward Kevin McLeod led the Cavaliers with 18 points. The Cavs led 29-20 at halftime, then had to reclaim the lead after the Wolverines edged ahead late in the third quarter.
The Cavaliers will play their regular-season home finale versus Terry Sanford at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Southern Lee will play at Lee County Thursday night.

Douglas Byrd 84, Union Pines 78 - OT
Kendall Hillman led Douglas Byrd with 31 points as the Eagles (3-15, 2-8) won in overtime at Union Pines (8-11, 2-8) in a CFVC game Friday night.
Darrin Carlyle led the Vikings with 18 points and Malik Crawford added 17 points.
Union Pines played Western Harnett last night and will host Lee County for a CFVC game at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Bartlett Yancey 57, Jordan-Matthews 43
Bartlett Yancey beat the visiting Jets (8-12, 2-5) in a Mid-State game Friday night. The Jets played Graham last night and will host Cummings at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Triton 59, Smithfield-Selma 51
Triton (14-5, 6-1) kept its hold on first place in the Two Rivers Conference with a win at Smithfield-Selma (6-14, 3-4) Friday night. The Hawks have a five-game winning streak.
Nick Parker led the Hawks with 17 points. Dequill Avery scored 12 points.
Triton will play at South Johnston at 8 p.m. Monday.

South Johnston 57, Western Harnett 46
The Eagles led 26-21 at halftime and 38-36 with a quarter to play but South Johnston (9-11, 2-5) won a Two Rivers game at Western Harnett (2-18, 2-5) Friday night.
Will Holmes led South Johnston with 25 points. Jonathan Buie led the Eagles with 17 points and Chris Johnson added 12.
Western Harnett played at Union Pines last night and will host Triton for a Two Rivers game at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Pine Forest 52, Overhills 27
Pine Forest (15-7, 7-3) turned around a 66-64 Jaguar win on Jan. 10 for a regular-season split Friday night in Fayettevile.
Overhills (8-11, 2-8) will host E.E. Smith at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

North Moore 53, Queens Grant 37
The Mustangs (13-7, 10-1) beat visiting Queens Grant (10-10, 5-4) in a Yadkin Valley game Friday night. North Moore will host Albemarle in a YVC game at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Pinecrest 67, Purnell Swett 53
The Patriots (6-12, 3-4) claimed a regular-season sweep over the Rams (3-13, 1-6) on the road Friday night. Pinecrest will play at Richmond at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Girls basketball
Southern Lee 54, Westover 45
The Lady Cavaliers (10-10, 5-5) avenged a Westover (9-12, 6-4) win earlier this season with a fourth-quarter surge to win in Fayetteville Friday night. Southern Lee and Westover were tied, 40-40, before the Lady Cavs won the last quarter 14-5.
Southern Lee will host Terry Sanford at 6 p.m. Tuesday, then play the regular-season finale at Lee County on Thursday.

Union Pines 57, Douglas Byrd 26
First-place Union Pines (17-3, 9-1) had no problem versus visiting Douglas Byrd (0-17, 0-10) in a CFVC game Friday night.
Stephanie Johnson totaled 14 points, eight rebounds, four steals, three blocks and three assists for the Lady Vikings. Samantha Ring had eight points and Nyona Shields dished seven assists.
The Lady Vikings will host Lee County at 6 p.m. Monday.

Northwood 52, Orange 34
Northwood (14-6, 5-5) got out to a 28-13 lead by halftime and topped Orange (2-21, 2-10) in a Big Eight game Friday night in Pittsboro.
Jazanae Billings led the Lady Chargers with 12 points. Kristian Eanes and Bryn Aydt added 10 and nine points, respectively.
Northwood will host Northern Vance at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Bartlett Yancey 50, Jordan-Matthews 38
Bartlett Yancey topped the Lady Jets (5-15, 2-5) in a Mid-State game Friday evening. Jordan-Matthews faced Graham yesterday and will host Cummings at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Pine Forest 47, Overhills 44
Pine Forest (9-11, 3-6) edged Overhills (7-9, 1-9) for a Mid-South Athletic win Friday night.
Jalla Aultman led the Lady Jaguars with 12 points and Alexis Geans added 10 points.
The Lady Jaguars will host E.E. Smith for a league game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Harnett Central 61, Rolesville 35
Sophomore guard Madison Turlington scored 21 points as the Lady Trojans (9-11, 4-7) won a Greater Neuse River game at Rolesvile Friday night.
Denise McNeill added 11 points. Harnett Central outscored Rolesville 23-8 in the last quarter.
The Lady Trojans will host East Wake at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Triton 46, Smithfield-Selma 33
Brittany Smith, with 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Tarica Worney, with 11 points and 15 rebounds, led the Lady Hawks with double-doubles in a Two Rivers win at Smithfield-Selma (3-17, 2-5).
Triton (7-12, 3-4) will play at South Johnston at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

South Johnston 56, Western Harnett 40
South Johnston (15-4, 7-0) remained perfect in Two Rivers play Friday evening at Western Harnett.
Meredith Randolph scored 11 points and Geena Bryant had 10 points for the Lady Eagles. Western Harnett (2-15, 2-5) played Union Pines yesterday and will host Triton at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Pinecrest 44, Purnell Swett 38
The Lady Patriots (6-11, 3-4) won a Southeastern Conference game at Purnell Swett (5-12, 0-7) Friday evening. Pinecrest will play at Richmond at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
