Spinners top Southern Lee, 4-1
The Sanford Spinners won their third straight game and improved to 8-1 in their Central Carolina Scholastic Summer League season with a 4-1 win over Southern Lee Monday night at Lee County High School.
Last week, the Spinners, the CCSSL team made up of Yellow Jacket players, won two road tests on Monday and Tuesday, beating Harnett Central 9-5 in 10 innings, then Fuquay 9-2 the next night.
In the win in Angier, Jake Thomas totaled five hits and two RBI. The Spinners outscored Harnett Central 6-2 in the 10th inning to win.
At Fuquay, the Spinners broke out to a 6-0 lead with a six-run top of the third. Thomas pitched six innings giving up two runs while scoring three runs. Dylan Cox had two runs. Tyler Toro and Austin Bullock had two RBI each.
In the 4-1 win over their city rivals, Trey North pitched six innings giving up three hits and one run while striking out five for the victory. Michael Frazer pitched one inning for a save.
Cox went 3 for 4 with two RBI, both coming on RBI singles, for the Spinners. Spencer Faulk went 2 for 3 and had an RBI walk.
Sanford hosted Fuquay last night and plays at Southern Lee, with a junior varsity game at 5 p.m. and a varsity game at 7:30 p.m., this evening at Tramway Road Park.
