Lady Eagle rally tops Lee County

Western Harnett 8, Lee County 7

Western Harnett scored eight runs in the last three innings to overcome a 5-0 Lee County lead and win in Lillington Wednesday night.

The Lady Eagles (6-2) completed the comeback with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win.

Nikki Hoover hit two home runs and had three RBI for the Lady Yellow Jackets. Chandler Patterson hit a home run.

Lee County (3-7) played at Apex last night and after Spring Break, the Lady Jackets will host Fuquay-Varina on April 9.

Western Harnett is off until hosting Purnell Swett on April 8.

Southern Lee 19, Chapel Hill 14

The Lady Cavaliers rallied from a 14-11 deficit through five innings with six runs in the top of the sixth and two more in the seventh to win at Chapel Hill on Wednesday.

The Lady Cavaliers (2-6) played a CFVC game against Gray's Creek last night and will play at Chatham Central on April 5 at 6 p.m.

Overhills 7, Douglas Byrd 3

Overhills made it back-to-back Cape Fear Valley wins prevailing at Douglas Byrd Wednesday night. The Lady Jaguars (3-7, 3-2) will host Westover on April 9.

Southwestern Randolph 13, North Moore 4

Southwestern Randolph (9-2, 4-0) got out to a 10-0 lead and beat the Lady Mustangs (6-3, 4-2) in a non-conference game Wednesday. North Moore played South Stanly last night and will play at Southern Alamance Saturday.


Forest Park (Va.) 7, Northwood 2

Forest Park, of Woodbridge, Va., won the Ashley Spring Break Baseball Tournament on Wednesday. The Chargers (10-2, 6-0) went 2-1 in the tourney in Wilmington. Northwood gets back to Carolina 12 play at Franklin Academy on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Ashley 5, Pinecrest 4

Tournament-host Ashley won the third-place game of the tournament in Wilmington Wednesday, getting a walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh against the Patriots (9-4). Pinecrest returns home and will face West Stanly Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Bartlett Yancey 7, Jordan-Matthews 5

Bartlett Yancey (4-4, 4-2) rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh to come back and beat the Jets (6-3, 2-1) in a Mid-State game in Siler City Wednesday night.

Drew Hinshaw went 2-for-4 with a double and a run for the Jets and Ethan Cook knocked in two RBI.

Jordan-Matthews played Eastern Randolph last night and will play at Graham on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Eastern Alamance 6, Chatham Central 1 - 8 innings

Eastern Alamance (6-4, 4-2) tied the game with a run in the sixth then plated five runs in the first extra frame to top the Bears (6-4, 6-1) in the first round of a tournament at Graham Wednesday evening. The tourney continues through Saturday.

Zack Burke pitched 7.0 innings, giving up no earned runs and three hits while striking out 10. Seth Elkins led the Bears at the plate going 3-for-4 with a run. Cole Garner had an RBI double.

Overhills 14, Douglas Byrd 0

Overhills (2-9, 2-4) routed Douglas Byrd for a Cape Fear Valley win in Fayetteville Wednesday night. The Jaguars played Harnett Central last night and are playing in the Richard Strickland Easter Tournament at Triton which starts Saturday.

Girls soccer

Apex 8, Lee County 1

Apex (3-4-1, 3-4-1) won at conference match at Lee County for its third straight win. The Lady Jackets (0-9, 0-8) are off until a Tri-Nine match at Panther Creek on April 8.

Knightdale 2, Harnett Central 0

Knightdale (5-4-1, 5-1-0) scored a goal in each half to beat visiting Harnett Central (5-2, 3-2) Wednesday night. The Lady Trojans will host Garner on April 8.
