Even after a slow start, Lee County senior Dewaun McEachin totaled his second double-double versus Southern Lee (13-8, 7-4) this season and the Yellow Jackets (18-4, 8-3), not coincidently, completed a regular-season sweep over the Cavaliers with a 75-69 victory Saturday afternoon at Lee County.

McEachin had 28 points and 15 boards in Lee County's win at Southern Lee on Feb. 6. After a slow first half Saturday, McEachin scored 14 of his 18 points and grabbed eight of his 11 rebounds in the second half as the Jackets pulled away, then held on during a late Cavalier run.

Keaun Toler, Lee County's other starting post player, got the Jackets off to a strong start with seven points in the first quarter. The Cavaliers led 8-5 before Lee County scored the last 10 points of the quarter.

The Jackets kept going, building a 25-11 lead shortly into the second period. Trevon Watson's three-pointer made it 28-16 Jackets.

Southern Lee's speed and defensive pressing turned up the tempo and bothered the Jackets and the Cavaliers rallied back into the game in hurry late in the half. Larry McLeod's three-point play, then a fast-break lay-up by Justin McKinnon sparked the Cavalier run to cut Lee County's lead to 28-23.

The Yellow Jackets got the last two hoops of the half, including Watson scrambling for an offensive rebound, then making an off-balance, arcing 18-footer as the horn sounded for a 32-23 Jacket lead at halftime.

Noah Mellette's three-pointer made for a 7-0 Cavalier rally starting the second half, but Lee County answered with a 9-2 run and the Cavs wouldn't draw close again until the last few seconds of the game.

Jerry Pullum had two steals, both being picked-off passes near the top of the Cavalier key, for two breakaway lay-ups as the Jackets built a big lead.

Watson hit another buzzer-beater with another jumper giving Lee County a 50-38 lead going to the fourth period. McEachin and Hunter Jackson turned offensive boards into buckets for the first four points in the last quarter.

Lee County led 70-53 before the Cavaliers made it closer down the stretch. Inside the last minute, Mellette made two foul shots, followed by a Yellow Jacket turnover, then Charles Wicker hitting a three-pointer, but the Lee County lead was still 73-66 with 0:17 left. Jackson made two free throws with 0:14 remaining.

Watson finished with 17 points and five rebounds. Toler scored 15 points. Jackson had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Pullum had eight points and four assists.

Mellette scored 17 points, including three three-pointers in the second half, to lead five Cavs in double-figure scoring.

Kevin McLeod had 14 points and five rebounds. Larry McLeod had 11 points, six rebounds and four steals. Wicker had 11 points and McKinnon had 10 points.

The Jackets and Cavs have rescheduled games for their senior nights on Monday. Lee County will host Westover while Southern Lee will host Terry Sanford.
