Area scores: Northwood waits until 7th to get Southern Durham

Northwood 2, Southern Durham 1

Northwood (10-10, 8-5) rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh then held on to beat Southern Durham Tuesday night. The Chargers have clinched third place in the Big Eight season race.
Senior Garrett Scott pitched a three-hit complete game, with no earned runs allowed, for the Chargers.
Northwood will host Southern Durham at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Harnett Central 8, East Wake 4
The Trojans (15-4, 12-1) kept pace with Clayton, also at 12-1 and with a split between Harnett Central and Clayton in the books, atop the Greater Neuse River Conference with a win over East Wake (9-12, 6-7) in Angier Tuesday night.
Tyson Messer pitched 4.2 innings with eight strikeouts for the win. Austin Mendenhall pitched 2.1 innings in relieft.
Zach Beasley knocked in two RBI. The Trojans outhit East Wake 12-7.
Harnett Central finishes its regular season at 7 p.m. tonight at West Johnston.

Softball
Harnett Central 8, East Wake 5
The Lady Trojans (10-8, 8-5) completed a regular-season sweep of the Lady Warriors (9-7, 8-5) in a Greater Neuse River game in Angier Tuesday. Harnett Central plays its regular season finale at West Johnston at 7 p.m. tonight.

Girls soccer
Union Pines 3, Southern Lee 1
No. 2-seeded Union Pines (16-2-3) made it three for three versus No. 3 Southern Lee (11-6) this season, this time in the Cape Fear Valley Conference Tournament semifinals at Terry Sanford Tuesday night.
The Lady Vikings will meet No. 1 Terry Sanford in the tournament final at 6 p.m. this evening at Terry Sanford. Union Pines beat Terry Sanford 3-2 in Cameron, then fell 3-0 in Fayetteville, during the regular season.

Terry Sanford 8, Lee County 0
No. 1 Terry Sanford (14-3-1) rolled by No. 5 Lee County (5-9) in a CFVC Tournament semifinal Tuesday in Fayetteville. The Lady Bulldogs led 3-0 at halftime.
Terry Sanford hosts Union Pines in the CFVC final at 6 p.m. this evening.

Pinecrest 9, Hoke County 0
No. 2-seeded Pinecrest (12-6-1) won via mercy rule versus No. 3 Hoke County (9-8-3) in the Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinals Tuesday.
The Lady Patriots advance to meet No. 1 Lumberton in the final. Lumberton defeated Pinecrest both times, 2-1 and 1-0, in the regular season.

Jack Britt 2, Overhills 1
No. 1-seeded Jack Britt (15-1-3) edged No. 4 Overhills (7-10) in a Mid-South Athletic tournament semifinal Tuesday night at Cape Fear. It was the second 2-1 Jack Britt win over the Lady Jags in a week. Jack Britt plays Cape Fear tonight in the MSAC tourney final.
