Jackets net nine for first victory

Lee County 9, Douglas Byrd 0

Michael Carter, Payton Jackson and Miguel Jernigan each scored two goals as the Yellow Jackets routed Douglas Byrd for a Cape Fear Valley win in Fayetteville Wednesday night.

The Yellow Jackets (1-3, 1-1) ran out to a 4-0 halftime lead. Eric Reyes, Isai Arroyo and David Garcia scored one goal each. Emrique Lee tallied two assists.

Lee County hosted Hoke County last night and will host Union Pines for a CFVC match at 7 p.m. Monday.

Jordan-Matthews 6, Providence Grove 2

After the visiting Patriots took a 1-0 lead, the Jets scored six straight goals to wind up with an easy win Wednesday night. Darwin Ramirez led the Jets with a hat trick. Edgar Aragon, Jonathan Hernandez and Kevin Rodriguez scored a goal each.

Jordan-Matthews (3-2) travels to play East Duplin at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Pinecrest 2, Holly Springs 2

Holly Springs (3-1-2) fought back from a 2-0 Patriot lead at halftime for a draw in Holly Springs Wednesday.

Pinecrest (4-0-1) opens Southeastern Conference action at Lumberton at 7 p.m. this coming Wednesday.

North Moore 3, Union Academy 2

Eddie Garcia's penalty-kick goal in the second half put the Mustangs ahead 3-2 and the Mustangs (3-0-1, 1-0-0) held on for a Yadkin Valley victory at Union Academy Wednesday.

Iban Catalan and Fernando Lopez scored in the 22nd and 23rd minutes respectively to put North Moore ahead 2-0.

North Moore will host East Montgomery at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Terry Sanford 4, Union Pines 1

Terry Sanford (4-1, 1-0) played and won its first Cape Fear Valley soccer match in Cameron Wednesday night.

The Vikings (2-2-2, 0-2-0) will play at Lee County at 7 p.m. Monday.

Overhills 4, Cape Fear 4

The Jaguars played to a draw in their first 4A Mid-State Athletic match at Cape Fear on Wednesday night. The Jaguars (1-1-2, 0-0-1) will play at Triton at 6 p.m. Monday.


Providence Grove d. Union Pines 26-24, 23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-9

Providence Grove (3-1) won the last two sets to win the non-conference match at Union Pines (5-3, 2-1) Wednesday. Union Pines played Southern Lee last night and will host West Montgomery at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

West Montgomery d. Jordan-Matthews 25-12, 25-10, 25-22

West Montgomery (8-0, 4-0 YVC) swept the Lady Jets Wednesday night. Jordan-Matthews (1-6, 0-0) played Providence Grove last night and will play at Northwood on Monday evening.

Pine Forest d. Western Harnett 25-22, 25-21, 25-10

Pine Forest (7-1) swept the visiting Lady Eagles Wednesday night. Western Harnett (1-3) will host Overhills at 6 p.m. Monday.

Boys - Lee County 22, Douglas Byrd 67

Girls - Lee County 20, Douglas Byrd 42

Both Yellow Jacket squads were victorious in a Cape Fear Valley meet at the Jordan Soccer Complex in Fayetteville Wednesday. Lee County will host Union Pines at 5 p.m. this Wednesday.

Boys - Union Pines 15, Terry Sanford 50

Girls - Union Pines 16, Terry Sanford 47

Both Viking teams won a CFVC meet Wednesday in Cameron, running their CFVC records to 2-0.

In the boys' race, Vikings Ben White (19:24), Wade Benton (19:43) and Reagan Fedowitz (19:46) finished the top three. In the girls' race, the top three were Lady Vikings Abby Verchick (21:05), Joeanna Kelly (24:16) and Danielle Wisen (25:27).

Union Pines will run at Lee County at 5 p.m. this Wednesday.

The Lady Yellow Jackets swept Westover for a Cape Fear Valley win at Westover on Wednesday. Lee County (2-3, 2-2) will host Southern Lee at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The Lady Jaguars (2-0, 2-0) edged out a Mid-South Athletic win at Pine Forest on Tuesday. Overhills hosted E.E. Smith yesterday and will go to Cape Fear for a 4 p.m. start Monday.

Triton 6, Cleveland 3

The Lady Hawks won at conference rival Cleveland Wednesday afternoon. Triton will host Smithfield-Selma in another Two Rivers match at 4 p.m. Monday.
