Cavaliers romp over SW Randolph in second half
Southern Lee 5, Southwestern Randolph 1
Southern Lee scored four unanswered goals in the second half, after playing to a 1-1 score at the half against Southwestern Randolph, and won its home opener Wednesday evening under new head coach Chris Palme.
The Cavaliers (1-0) will host Triton at 7 p.m. Monday.
Union Pines 2, East Montgomery 1
Union Pines (1-0) won its season-opener under new head coach James Hayes Wednesday night. It is UP's first win over East Montgomery (1-1), currently ranked No. 6 in the state in NCHSAA 1A, in four years.
Darian Erickson scored a Viking goal in the first half. Rafael Pastrana scored on a penalty kick to give UP a 2-1 lead early in the second half. Viking keeper Matt Cooper made 24 saves.
Union Pines played at Scotland last night and will go to Village Christian for a 5:30 p.m. start Monday.
Pinecrest 3, Wakefield 1
The Patriots (1-0) started their season with a road victory Wednesday. Pinecrest will face Harnett Central at 7 p.m. Monday in Angier.
West Montgomery d. Union Pines 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23
Despite four tight sets, the Lady Vikings (1-1, 0-0) fell at West Montgomery (2-0, 1-0) Wednesday night. Union Pines played at Western Harnett last night and will play at Richmond at 6 p.m. Monday.
Overhills d. West Johnston 25-19, 25-21, 25-15
The Lady Jaguars (2-0) swept visiting West Johnston Wednesday night. Katie Keen had 13 assists for the Jags. Jordan Forbess had eight digs, Ge'naisha Robinson had seven kills and Jaylen Smalls had three blocks.
Overhills hosted Harnett Central last night and will play at Pinecrest at 6 p.m. Monday.
Providence Grove d. Jordan-Matthews 25-12, 25-10, 25-12
Providence Grove (1-0) rolled to an easy win at Jordan-Matthews (0-1) Wednesday evening. The Lady Jets played Northwood last night and will continue in-county play hosting Chatham Central at 6 p.m. Monday.
