Cavaliers avenge loss to Pinecrest
Southern Lee 45, Pinecrest 42
The Cavaliers (3-3) finished a 3-0 week, on at Cavalier Court, Friday night versus the Patriots (1-4). Pinecrest beat the Cavs, 43-36, in Southern Pines on Nov. 19.
Sophomore guard Noah Mellette, returning from an injury, scored 16 points to lead the Cavaliers and forward Kevin McLeod scored 14 points.
Southern Lee goes into Cape Fear Valley Conference play this coming week with a game at Douglas Byrd at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, then a home game versus Gray's Creek Friday night.
Richmond 59, Union Pines 58
The host Raiders (2-1) took the lead with a free throw with 0:31 remaining and held on to edge the Vikings (3-2) Friday night.
Armani McCoy led Union Pines with 20 points and Darrin Carlyle added 12 points.
Greg Patterson led the Raiders with 19 points.
Union Pines will open its CFVC schedule at Westover at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Overhills 69, Harnett Central 42
The Jaguars (4-1) led 39-18 at halftime and rolled to a win over the visiting Trojans (2-3) in Spring Lake Friday.
Overhills edged the Trojans 59-57 in the Harnett County tournament at Campbell. The county foes will meet again on Jan. 14.
Brian Staten led the Jaguars with 22 points and Dexter McCrae added 12 points.
Don Singletary scored 17 points for the Trojans.
Overhills will play its first-ever 4A Mid-South Athletic Conference game at South View at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Harnett Central will play at Triton at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Midway 72, Triton 42
Midway (4-0) led 26-24 at halftime before opening up a big lead over the visiting Hawks (2-4) Friday night.
Dequill Avery led Triton with 12 points. The Hawks will host Harnett Central at 8 p.m. Friday.
Chatham Charter 53, Fletcher Academy 18
The Knights (3-3) routed visiting Fletcher Academy Friday night in Siler City. Chatham Charter will host Southern Wake at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Carolina Friends 51, O'Neal 33
The Falcons (1-4) fell at Carolina Friends (4-3) in Durham Friday night. O'Neal will host Caldwell Academy at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Kerr-Vance Academy 69, Cape Fear Christian 53
Kerr-Vance's R.J. Hunt poured in 34 points and the Spartants won at Cape Fear Christian (0-6) Friday night. The Eagles will host Jonathan's House Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Southern Lee 50, Pinecrest 38
The Lady Cavaliers (4-2) went 3-0 on their home court last week, pulling away from Pinecrest (1-4) after a 19-19 tie at halftime. Southern Lee sweeps Pinecrest for the season.
Jordanna Kalkhof led the Lady Cavs with 18 points. Makenzie Cicogna had 11 points and six rebounds. Rachel Wilson had eight points, 10 boards and four steals. Erin Pickens had eight points and 10 rebounds and point guard Jasmine McIver had five points and five assists.
Southern Lee will start Cape Fear Valley Conference play at Douglas Byrd at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Union Pines 63, Richmond 54 - OT
The Lady Vikings (4-1) won overtime 10-1 to win at Richmond Friday night to move to a four-game winning streak.
Sophomore guard Maresa Smith led Union Pines with 17 points and seven steals. Inside, sophomore Stephanie Johnson had 12 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
Nyona Shields had 12 points and five assists. Lexie Coxe scored 10 points and Tiffany Hicks had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Vikings.
Union Pines will begin Cape Fear Valley play at Westover at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Overhills 44, Harnett Central 33
The Lady Jaguars (5-0) stayed perfect and topped Harnett Central (2-3) for the second time this season on Friday night.
Janna Aultman scored 12 points and Ge'Naisha Robinson scored 11 for the Lady Jaguars.
Lakiesha Lewis led Harnett Central with 15 points.
Overhills will begin its first 4A Mid-South Athletic Conference season Tuesday at 6 p.m. at South View. Harnett Central will visit Triton at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Triton 57, Midway 44
The Lady Hawks (2-4) won at Midway (1-3) Friday night. Senior Brittany Smith led Triton with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Jamecia McNair totaled seven points, nine rebounds, six steals, three assists and two blocks and Je'nae Harvey scored 12 points for the Lady Hawks.
Triton will host Harnett Central at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Chatham Charter 55, St. Thomas More 50
The Lady Knights (3-3) pulled out a close victory at home Friday night. Chatham Charter will host Southern Wake at 6 p.m. Monday.
Kerr-Vance Academy 48, Cape Fear Christian 37
Cape Fear Christian led 23-21 at halftime before Kerr-Vance prevailed in Erwin Friday night. The Lady Eagles (0-4) will play a Carolina Christian Conference game at Lee Christian on Friday at 6 p.m.
