The Southern Lee High School Wildlife Team won the overall championship as nearly 80 students from Lee County schools participated in the District 5 Youth Hunter Education Skills Tournament on Saturday at the Chatham County Wildlife Club.

Harnett Central products Brian Taylor and Heath Bowers (3-0) helped Campbell University extend their winning streak to 10 games last week as the Fighting Camels picked up wins over Elon 12-1 and William & Mary 10-6 and 8-5 before sweeping Bowling Green 4-2, 9-4 and 4-2.
Saturday was warm, or at least warmer, and dry, or at least drier, so it was a good, or at least possible, day to get out on the diamond.

Southern Lee's basketball season came to a close on the road in the second round of the state tournament for the third straight season. For the second of those three trips to the second round, it was a heartbreaking finish for the Cavaliers.

Noah Mellette's free throw with nine seconds remaining was enough to give Southern Lee a 49-48 victory in the long-awaited first round of the NCHSAA 3A state boys' basketball tournament Saturday night at Northern Nash.
While the key heights of the high school basketball season have been canceled or put on hold throughout the last two weeks thanks to winter weather, the important preseason efforts for spring sports squads have been hampered, but not entirely stopped.
Snow across North Carolina caused postponements of high school basketball state tournament games Tuesday including for Southern Lee and Lee County. The Cavaliers and Lady Yellow Jackets are scheduled to hit the road this evening for first-round tourney games.

Southern Lee's boys basketball team will have to hit the road, but get to face a squad with a below-.500 overall record, when the NCHSAA State Tournament begins Tuesday night.
