Lady Camels take on Gardner-Webb in Big South tourney

No. 4-seeded Campbell will take on No. 5 Gardner-Webb at 2 p.m. today in the quarterfinal round of the Big South Championship at The HTC Center.

The Lady Camels (18-11, 13-6) and Runnin’ Bulldogs (16-13, 11-9) will battle for a spot in the semifinals (6 p.m. Saturday), taking on the winner of the first quarterfinal between No. 1 High Point and No. 8 UNC Asheville.

Campbell and Gardner-Webb split their regular season matchups, each winning its home game. Gardner-Webb took the first meeting 56-54 in Boiling Springs on Jan. 16. Jasmine Dale made a pair of free throws with four seconds left to help Gardner-Webb secure the  comeback victory.

Sophomore guard RaeChaun Edwards paced the Lady Camels with 14 points followed by Roslyn Presley and junior guard Kiera Gaines with 13 and 12, respectively.

Presley scored a game-high 24 points and added seven rebounds on Senior Day to lead Campbell past Gardner-Webb, 65-62, Feb. 22 at Gore Arena.

Campbell ended its regular season with an 82-56 loss at Winthrop on Saturday, the largest deficit the team has suffered all year.

Presley has led Campbell in scoring for six of the last seven games, scoring in the double digits each game in the streak. She is seventh in the league in scoring at 14.8 points per game and is sixth in field-goal percentage at 47.9.

Gaines continues to move up the Big South rankings in rebounding, sitting at third with 9.3 boards per game. She is also fourth in assists with 4.03 each contest.
