Northview Allstars start tourney with no-hitter
Led by Ryan Jones firing a no-hitter, the Northview Allstars 11U team opened its play in the Cal Ripken District 1 Tournament with a 12-1 victory over West Chatham Thursday evening at Sandhills Optimist Park.
The Northview Allstars, of Deep River Northview Optimist Park, scored three runs in the second to gain a 4-0 lead. Northview slugged for 16 hits on the evening.
Logan Hair hit a solo homer as part of Northview's second-inning rally. Keshaun Mays hit a solo homer as Northview scored three more runs in the fourth taking an 8-1 lead.
Jones didn't need so much offense in his five-inning no-no. He struck out three and walked three.
Caleb Reynolds had a two-RBI single and three RBI in all. Timmy Parker added two RBI.
Northview went 5-0 to win a two-day tournament at Southern Lee last weekend. Northview allowed four runs through the first four victories before defeating GBI Express 6-5 in the final.
Northview continues in the district tournament with a game at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sandhills Optimist Park.
